Description
Here is my attempt at a re-design of the character of Perceptor, done especially for the Geekbots fan-fic/fan-art project. Unlike my previous re-designs, this one features an Earth-based alt. mode - in this case, an electron microscope, which I figured would be a logical choice for Perceptor - a piece of high-end scientific kit, which also quite closely resembles his traditional optical microscope alt. form (it's also of a size that means that he doesn't have to mass-shift to turn into it!).As always, comments & crits are welcome!

I really like this work. The choice of electron microscope is a good one (i'm biased though,'cause I had the same reasoning),and suggest he has a particle beam cannon for a weapon rather than a laser.
While I like that you've stayed true to the original colour scheme,I can't help but think that if Perceptor is trying to hide amongst Earth technology, wouldn't he go for something a little less conspicuous?
I would also like to see more of an actual transformation, and maybe consider his size...if the keyboard is designed for someone (a human) to use, then the multiple screens are quite small.
just some minor crits...otherwise I think you've done a great job

This is a brillian redesign. I could never figure out how one could possibly alter a transformer that much, but you did it perfectly. I faved this yesterday but didn't commentt coz my keyboard was playing up.

Many thanks for those kind comments, Captain! (sorry it's taken me a few days to reply, but I've been away)
Here's to Um Bongo making a big comeback - I used to drink that stuff every single day when I was a kid

That redesign is very cool. I think I have figured out the transformation already.

did you have any plans to rework any of the other geekbots? also, were you thinking of doing some interior-page art as well ? 'cos if this perceptor's any indication... suffice it to say that i second that comment of urzu's elsewhere on your page, "man, am i glad you're working with us on the geek-thing."
oh and yes! i finally finally made a break-through with pipes and will try to "finalize" it something tomorrow. the key (transformation cog?) was altering his transformation but retaining the signature design points. i was getting too set on the backpack, but have found a way to sort of suggest it without his basically carrying the whole cab on his shoulders. managed a balance with the scale-thing too. thanks for the advice !

Yeah, I'm up for doing some more redesigns - I'll consult with Urzu 7 to see which Geekbots/Nerdicons he's already got covered, so we don't overlap!
As for interior-page art, I guess it all depends on how my workload develops - the last thing I want to do is say I'll do something and then have to let you guys down!
Great news about cracking the Pipes redesign! Can't wait to see it

Booyah!
Yes, the only redesign I'm doing that has yet to show is Sparkstalker. Feel free to swipe any of the other characters.
But i must say, there are a few I really feel don't need one, like Wheeljack and the constructicons... And mainly for reasons of laziness, Quickswitch!
But you know, just do whoever you think would be fun, regardless of what I just said.
Oh, I don't know if I mentioned it before, but I think this redesign here is pretty sweet.

Well, I've just completed a re-design of Skydive (I don't know if he'll end up as a Geekbot participant, but what they hey - I wanted to see if I could design him so he could legitimately turn into an F-16, with no extra pieces sticking out!), but apart from him I haven't really considered who else I'd like to take a shot at. I'll have another look through the list of characters, and get back to you.
And hey, glad you like Percy

it's true ! oh mass-shifting. here you've addressed that issue and i get hung up on slight-scale concerns! (part of my delay with the pipes redesign is that he's coming out much bigger because of the truck-mode and i wanted to keep him mini-bottish and not like the upcoming steroided classics 2.0 powerglide, although he's already larger now than rapido's delorean).
and re: the pink, didn't even realize. you know, hot-rod was always that odd kind of pink/purple in the animated movie and he's still thought of as red.
nice also to see that percepter occasionally lends his cannon/lens to the world of academia:

Well, I think that we can allow ourselves a little bit of leeway with the scale issue - at least where the mini-bots are concerned. The IDW comics do have more of a parity in size between Bumblebee and the rest of the car-bots, so it's not like we'd be setting a whole new precendent... but on the other hand I can totally understand why people'd want to keep the Mini-bots smaller. 'Tis a bit of a conundrum.
Personally, I'd say go with what you think works best for the individual character without worrying overly about being a stickler for canon. I mean, logically speaking (and I know logic can be a bit iffy when talking about alien transforming robots!), as Huffer & Pipes both turn into truck cabs, they should really be similar in size to Optimus Prime! I'm not suggesting making Pipes THAT big (into the steroidal Powergilde territory, as you say!), but I think you could get away with having him a bit larger than Rapido and the rest of the car-bots, if you want to. I kinda like the idea of having a big bot really digging tiny little bits of Earth technology!
Anyway, good luck with him, dude - can't wait to see what you come up with

Great redesign David, and now he doesn't have to mass shift for when he acts as a telescope either.

He's pink!
*cough* Not that I have anything against his being pink...it was just quite a bit of a surprise to see. Though I do quite like his color scheme...
I'm really loving his alt-mode; it's nice to know he won't be mass-shifting.

The funny thing is that I actually sampled that colour from a photo of the toy in an attempt to get fairly accurate colours, and even red-shifted it slightly when I noticed how pink it was appearing... and he still looks slightly pink!
Still, I quite like having him a slightly different shade to the standard bright red that is sported by so many other 'Bots. Glad you like him

although i've already said a mouthful on the idw-boards, i forgot to add that it looks like you've captured him just as he is about to transform. there's an almost... excited sense of implied motion to the robot-mode. maybe it's the slightly-raised arms and the expression, i don't know. in any case, fine fine work, DC. glad that this Percy will be gracing our pages!

Thanks, my friend - I'm glad you approve, and I can't wait to see him in Geekbots!
Oh, and the reason that he looks slightly excited in the drawing is that it was the first time that he'd transformed into that alt. mode - always an exciting moment for any 'Bot
