Reeve moves, a curving motion to the side of the other man and smirks down at the gunman, “Ah that. Mm, well that is already covered.” With those words he points to the corner of the room where Cait Sith is sitting on a perch. The little robot cat gives out a wee wave.“Yoo-hoo Vincent~”

OH YEAH I SAW THAT AND oh good grief all this shouting is hard on the ears. Yes I saw that and I think it is ADORABLE. I just adore Reeve to pieces and I think he'd be really cute with Vincent. I generally pair him with Rufus. He needs a man who can finance his fondness for animatronic things.

"Haha. I'm more of a RenoxRufus, or TsengxRufus man. For the first, I blame the Rufus my Reno once met. He corrupted me. For the second, it might have been my adoration toward a ship that was based on 'loyalty' to begin with. As for Reeve, it's either Vincent, Tseng, or Shalua to me. Though being more of a gunman at heart, it is always with a deep arching sadness when considering others. STILL TSEEVE IS BEAUTIFUL IN ITS GLORIOUS SELF. Ugh, it's just...so sad, so sad though-- the ship-- even when I first locked my gunman in the coffin. ahflkadghkd;fahdgk;jdfas" ;_;

I admit I do occasionally catch flack for choosing "safe" pairings, but to me what solidified RufusXReeve was a scene in Dirge of Cerberus where Reeve is EVER so delicately explaining to Vincent that the WRO is funded by someone looking for redemption, and I was like "Just admit it's Rufus! He's the only person with money enough to fund the UN!" I see a genuine friendship between Rufus and Reeve, so that makes me put them together. That and they're both hot as toast. I adore Rufus. The Rufus in my fics is a bit of a dip. He can run a corporation the size of a planet, but he can't make a cup of coffee without blowing things up.
Of course I can see a genuine friendship between Reeve and Vincent too, and I have paired them in that wandering Godzilla of a fic I am still writing, but I write professionally in Real Life, so I tend to let my fan fiction run where it will, and the majority of my readers like VincentXCid. And I do too.

Money might not be God to some, but admittedly, it did make things run more smoothly. I think what's prohibiting me though, is the fact that I have /yet/ to read something that really speaks of that right chemistry in my mind to me. Apart from Vincent/Lucrecia, and Vincent/Hojo, the latter of which is an OTP, you see, all the ships I sail later always came from my own experience RPing with my muse's counterpart, or having read what someone else did on them that's just so spectacular to me."

Well I've played FFVII, played DoC, played Crisis Core, got my friend to download notes for me about Before Crisis, and read PART of the SE novel series, and have the extended version of Advent Children, so if I said I was not heavily influenced by canon, I'd be lying my backside off. This game and these characters make up a HUGE part of my life, and towards the end of my best friend's life she and I played it a lot. So... yeah I like to run with what looks 'canon' to me, but I think what is really important about fan fiction is to accept who OTHER people embrace as their OTP. Too often I see people in screaming matches about who is with whom and who is right. What the flying fudge does it matter as long as we all have fun? One person I follow ships Reeve/Chaos. Not even Reeve/Vincent, but Reeve/Chaos. I would have never thought of THAT pairing in a billion years but she makes it adorable and I love it.
Vincent and Cid do have the ultimate bromance though, and it tickles me pink because THAT is canon! I'd pay a LOT of money for a game that was nothing but those two on a pub crawl because I bet it would be hysterical.
Writing for a living is pretty much like any job. I do original fantasy and horror, and have a new novel in the works. You can see my books here --> www.torquerebooks.com/index.ph… You would be amazed at how many professional writers and artists got their start doing fan fiction, and I try to encourage people to branch out. But because I write professionally I tend to keep my fan fiction pretty light and fun. That way it doesn't turn into "just a job".

Well personally I think Aerith is a spoiled opportunistic bitch, but it doesn't matter since I have Cloud paired with Reno. They're my OTP. They make me happy. Cloud is all angsty so he needs someone goofy to lighten him up.

I can see why you would be a bit nervous about starting some original fiction. Have you thought about starting with short stories? Something small that will not be so research-intensive? It is best to not try to do something too big at first.
