Michael Whelan! I used to collect those! Okay I just got the first six and then I stopped because I was a poor student-type.
But wow, this is beautiful. Certainly brings back memories.... I like the design of his head; the basic garden-lizard look makes this huge beast seem.... benign, somehow....
