Description Kick Ass Comic Issue 1. Cover Variant by Steve McNiven.

I thought the original cover was a brilliant drawing by Steve McNiven of a beaten up (but not beaten) Kick-Ass.

The original cover ( www.weeklycrisis.com/2008/03/c… appeared as an uncoloured drawing on a red background, and I found on tumblr.com an image where someone had given the suit a dark green wash (apologies I can't find the original link). I thought I'd have a go at changing the background, titles and green shading, adjusting the yellow stripes on his legs and colouring in the rest of the image. I spent many happy hours during the summer of 2011 colouring the face, skin, eyes, hair, gloves, the rips in the suit and his bat. I have also extended the image downwards and completed the lower part of his legs and given him a pair of boots. Dave wears three different types of boots in the Volume1 comics, starting off with Timberland style boots, then the type used in the pic and finally John Romita Jr must have settled on a simpler version of these boots - must have been easier to draw!).

Still not happy with the eyes, might have another go sometime. I particularly liked adding all the blood to our battered hero! I have also given it an appropriate quote from one of the frames in the graphic novel.

Kick-Ass is Ā© Mark Millar & John Romita Jr / MARV Films / KA Films LP.
The original drawing is by Steve McNiven, I can only claim credit for the part below the bat!

Thanks , but I can't claim all the credit (see description) I only finished what someone had already started, and then got carried away by adding too much blood!!!

I printed this out on to an iron on transfer and made a T-Shirt which I wore one day on my holiday in London last July. Several people stopped me in Picadilly Circus and Leicester Square and admired the T Shirt! Then a few months later this magazine came out: [link]
Did those people work for this magazine and did I influence their cover? (yeah right in my dreams, purely coincidence - or was it?)

Nice to see a much better coloured version of this make the front cover of the October 2011 issue of Clint Magazine #11.
