Description The rain had stopped as Katara and Zuko were heading back to Appa, but the sky was still filled with dark clouds. Not a single word had been spoken between them since they left Yon Rha alone in the mud.
Katara was walking a little ahead of Zuko. He hadn’t caught up with her because he didn’t know what to say. He didn’t know how to comfort someone. ”Especially not a crying girl” he thought to himself as he suddenly saw silent tears roll down Katara’s cheek. He had never seen a girl cry before, not like this. Azula never cried, not even as a little girl, or at least never in front of him.
Zuko tried to come up with something to say, but although he knew exactly how Katara felt, he just couldn’t find anything to say that would make it better, because he knew that there were no words that could. No words would bring back her mother. No words would make her pain go away. He felt ashamed for letting her cry, for not doing anything.
“Katara!” Zuko gasped as her knees suddenly hit the dirty ground.
She sat there, trembling, with her back against him and although he couldn’t see her face, he could hear her soft sobs. He clenched his fists and took a deep breath before he approached her.
He hesitantly put his hand on her shoulder and sat down beside her. Katara tensed up from his touch and Zuko hastily let go of her, immediately regretting his actions. He’d messed up again. She didn’t want him there. He had probably just made it worse.
As Zuko moved to stand up again, Katara suddenly reached out and grabbed his shirt, pulling him back down. She desperately held on to him and buried her face in his chest, staining it with her tears. Bewildered, Zuko looked down at her.
“Please stay” she whispered weakly.
Zuko relaxed his body and before he knew what he was doing, he had put his arms around her, pulled her closer to him and softly rested his chin in her hair. He may not be skilled with words like his uncle, but this… this he could do.
They sat like that for a while and even though Katara had finally calmed down, neither had let go of the other. Zuko was the first to speak.
"I think we should get up...uhm...Appa is probably wondering were we are..." he said awkwardly. Katara looked up at him, her blue eyes red and puffy, but no longer sad and she nodded. Zuko rose to his feet and held out his hand to Katara. She took it and he helped her up, but before she let go of his hand, she smiled softly at him, making his cheeks reluctantly heat up.
"Thank you, Zuko."

This is so heartbreaking...and yet so sweet at the same time. Poor Zuko's face in the first two panels, he looks like he doesn't know what to do with himself. *cough*hugheryouidiot!*cough*
