Neutral Evil. Apathetic, Distant, Manipulative. Hanbei is directionless at the moment and at the very core, lost. He considers himself to have died twice and is at a loss of what to do or what is even tethering him to the world. He is often emotionless and stoic, but during times of near death experiences the idea of meeting his end makes him excited and perhaps a sometimes even a little manic.

History:

Feelings of cold, hunger, and anger were all he remembered from his mortal life. He was born an Absol in a barren village near the outskirts of Noir Vale before dying a young adolescent due to exposure and malnutrition. Though he lived an unremarkable life, he came back to miserable existence as a gastly. With his new abilities he turned to theft to survive which led him to fights and gang activity.

The Yuurei-Kai were a gang of ghost types who dealt mostly in extortion and smuggling. Hanbei had developed a dangerous reputation and, catching the eye of one of the recruiters, was brought to the Oyabun for evaluation. Seeing the potential in Hanbei they welcomed him into the gang teaching him to fight, control his powers, and the insignificance of his own life. The lessons were long and brutal as he was shaped into one of the Yuurei-kai’s most powerful tools; the knife in the right hand of the Oyabun to use as he sees fit. Despite the necessary harshness of his training the gang became the only family he ever knew, before ending in flames.

Late one night, the members gathered for a quarterly meeting. They had been expanding and would soon become a powerful gang in Noir. There was an explosion. Fire quickly consumed the building like a starving animal and stolen sacred talismans created barriers preventing the ghosts from phasing or escaping the building. A spy had been planted who leaked information to a rival gang and a trap had been laid to exterminate the ghosts before they could reach their full potential. Hanbei barely survived, though he suffered significant burns.
