Even Jhnonen says Gaz is the smartest character on the show, so you would have to be at genius level to compete with her. Besides, if you even tried, you'd be sent to a Nightmare World of no return.

CreatorΒ Jhonen Vasquez himself said at InvaderCon II that ZAGR would've been made official had romance been a focal point (a conceived episode idea wound up with ZIM taking Gaz to an amusement park [a "first date" perhaps?]).
Richard Horvitz and Melissa Fahn ship "themselves" (at InvaderCon 3, when Rikki Simmons as GIR said he wanted a pregnancy test kit at a fan-proposed theme park based on the series, Melissa cheekily responded that "You can have one be Gaz and the other be ZIM", prompting a murmur from the audience and a bemused expression from Richard).
The DVD commentaries said that "Gaz is ZIM's potential love interest" and Melissa herself said "Gaz can love, she's just better than everyone else" (a fact that even Jhonen agrees with, affirming that Gaz is the sanest and smartest character on the show). Plus, ZIM being a defect allows him to feel emotions, even if what he says has to be taken with a grain of salt ("I love you, cold and unfeeling robot arm" [as a smeet] and "If I could love, I think I might love you" [as his regular self, directed towards Mini Moose]).
Although Dib would be discovered to be a failed clone of the Professor and ZIM was a test tube smeet,Β Gaz's origins remain shrouded in mystery. Even so,Β theyΒ were all machine-created in some way. It is even suggested that the test subject used to create Gaz (the remnants of which are in a jar in Professor Membrane's lab with the label "Mom" written on it) wasn't human, which might provide somewhat of an answer for Gaz's strange powers (a control over fire, to be able to manifest inclement weather, shadowy concealment plus the power to appear from anywhere at any time with a single thought, and to create sentient robotic stuffed animals "programmed to feat on human flesh" [Gaz'sΒ FNaF-like ability is probably derivative of the fact that her favorite restaurant, Bloaty's Pizza Hog, is - like other parodies,Β includingΒ FNaF- a lampooning of the real-life ShowBiz Pizza Place & Chuck E. Cheese arcade pizzerias]) and give a reason for Dib's obsession with the paranormal.
Gaz has an Irken plushie at the head of her bedside as the porcine spell was being cast upon her by Dib (Gaz: Taster of Pork) and the hero of Gaz's favorite gamer series, Vampire Piggy, Hunter resembles Tallest ZIM (possibly referencing the unwritten finale).
Head writer Eric Trueheart wrote out a rather ZAGR-like story plot for the series finale,Β Invader Dib, in which we have Gaz, ZIM, Skoodge, Tenn, Zita, and Larb verses Dib, Tak, and the combined Resisty and Meekrob armies, ending with Dib, Tak, and their remaining forces being banished to the remote corners of Saturn, while ZIM ends up replacing the incompetent Red and Purple as leader of Irk, with Gaz as his Empress/Queen Consort.

"So little Gaz? You will come with Zim?" she stared at him for a moment. leaving everything here on earth, just to go with a freak of an alien that she tough she loved? Leaving Bloaty's? She could take her GameSlave2 but it wouldn't be enough, leaving could meant never seeing her dad again, even if she hated Dib she was going to miss him and all his stupid para-science, leaving would mean being just with Zim, well and Gir and Minimoose of course, but Zim would be the only thinking thing, and that meant only talking with HIM the alien her brother hates, the alien she wants everybody to thinks she hates him ut in the inside she loves him with all her heart. AGH! Why is love like this?!?! Why couldn't she have both, her life here on Earth and Zim? Did he really had to go?
He looked at her with hope, he was scared of thinking that she wasn't going to come with him, he loved her with all his squeedly-spooch, and he didn't want to leave Earth without his precious love-pig! She meant everything to him...even...even more than his mission, he could give up his mission just for her, lucky for him, she didn't ask him that, he was only sure of one thing, he was in love, something not very normal on Irkens, but he did love her, very much.
"Yes" and with that they flew away through the stars

One of the working plot ideas for the series finale Invader Dib would have had Zim defeating Dib and Tak and becoming Almighty Tallest soon thereafter, deposing Tallest Red and Purple from the throne; knowing that he must have a queen to rule he would have chosen Gaz, with whom he had teamed up with after she (cloaked in a hood to hide her identity until the time is right, with only her amber eyes visible in the shadows) encouraged him to fight on to save his people from certain death. Additionally, he would begin to lose his desire to conquer Earth and, as Jhonen claims, see the beauty in Earth life and thus completely lose his desire to destroy the planet. However, unlike most villains who chose a consort while they're still evil (such as Darkseid and Max Exterminus), Zim would have made Gaz his queen because she helped him save his people from death and he would have realized there is beauty in human life, thus sparing Earth from the wrath of the Irkens.
Had the series continued, the finale/movie for the whole show would have had the Irkens, the Hobo 13 trainees and some others vs. Dib, the Meekrob, the Resisty and Earth. Gaz would have joined Zim's side, teaming up with him to put an end to the carnage after encouraging him to save his people from death, cloaking her face and body in a hooded outfit to do so. They would have defeated Dib and his forces, banishing them to Saturn. As reward for helping him, Gaz is made Zim's queen consort when Zim is declared to be the next Almighty Tallest, though how she becomes queen (wedding, coronation, three tests like in the Duck Dodgers episode "To Love a Duck") is never explained.
