Oh shiiiiii....
You never see Vorts as Combine - the most we saw was the one being used as a battery in Nova Prospekt and the other with its binds still on sweeping up... I've often thought that they couldn't be converted, because of their Vortal connections being of a different 'type' of energy than the Combine's.
Scary to think what might be going on in... or around ... that Vort's mind.

Well, originally it was a surprise enemy at the end of the mod 1178: Episode One. The game never established if it were a Combine force, though it might be likely considering its style. Even so, in that mod, Vortigaunts are hostile towards the player even though its set after the events of Half-Life, so who can say for sure?

Oh right, yes - most likely during the battle I had to turn on fullbright in order to see what I was even doing... 
But yeah it's still a very intriguing idea to have one of them. The potential for over the top power is scary, too. Hive mind + shooting electricity + being told where to shoot by Overwatch O.o
