Description

Finally got around to this again. I guess two or three weeks works, depending on how busy things get at home... and how soon I can make it back from work.

The scene shifts to the morning following Danbuster's late-night carrot panic.

The three friends sit down to breakfast, and Frederick is already thinking about what they'll need for their impending shopping trip...

Danbuster had a good idea? It's a red letter day. Also, can't argue with Spencer's logic there.

Frederick: Oh aye, like he says, he does have his bright moments.

Danbuster: Heh, thanks!
Spencer: Well, so long as it's food, I'll eat it. Who needs the thin veneer o' good manners when a bloke's 'ungry?

That's gonna be a lot of carrots, lol.

Why use paws? Stick your whole face in the bowl!

Frederick: Oh, fer th' love of all that's holy, don't encourage him!

Spencer: Hehe, it's not a bad idea though...

Danbuster: No, it's a terrible one...

Not to throw in evolution into the mix, but flagellum (the little wavy things single-celled organisms use as appendages) technically were invented first as life began to grow and develop, but Spencer's right: Paws were invented before spoons. But hopefully, proper table manners will come soon.

100 pounds of carrots?! Talk about crazy prepared. Hope the agriculture in the UAK had a good harvest this year... at least he'll see better, that's for sure.

Well, I guess if we throw Creationism into this, tentacles came before paws... on the Fifth Day, God created the creatures of the sea and the birds of the air; on the Sixth Day, God created land mammals and humankind. (And on the Seventh Day, God rested, ending the first week of the world with the first Sabbath - hence the seven-day week)

Yup, paws certainly came before tools, though... but table manners has always been among the ongoing lessons for Frederick to teach Spencer...

Danbuster sure likes to be well stocked when it comes to carrots!

"paws were invented first"
that ignores the existence of innovation

Spencer is just being lazy, I guess... he has no table manners either...

He's got a point: paws *were* invented first! Hmm, Danbuster appears to be eating some kind of cereal, but Spencer looks like he's eating porridge. Hah, but I love how Danbuster insists on getting 100lb of carrots. Talk about being prepared.

DCLeadboot In reply to Kelaiah [2019-03-24 08:49:01 +0000 UTC]

Yup, even if Frederick doesn't agree...
Correct, Spencer's eating porridge... with his paws! And Danbuster was supposed to be having cornflakes...
Frederick, being an obligate carnivore, had a cooked breakfast, probably egg and bacon or something?

And Danbuster certainly never does things by halves...

Kelaiah In reply to DCLeadboot [2019-03-25 05:22:52 +0000 UTC]

Yuck, I can't imagine eating that stuff with my hands. Cornflakes, wow... I haven't had cold cereal in *years*! Just haven't felt like having the stuff, y'know? Course I haven't had porridge/oatmeal/whatever for even longer.

I like Frederick's breakfast the most, even if I'm too lazy to cook up such a meal every morning!

Nope, he sure doesn't.

Heh, well... that's Spencer for you. He never really had table manners, living rough for many years before Dan and Fred took care of him... ;;

I tend to have cereal for breakfast myself - usually chocolate Weetabix or something like that, though...

I also have a hard-boiled egg to take some protein with my medication.

When it comes to porridge, it has to be flavoured and sugared before I can take it, as I don't like bland and tasteless...

Yup, a full English egg and bacon is nice! Though I much prefer a sausage to the idea of black pudding...

Danbuster: Never do things by halves, give it your all! A job half-arsed is a job half-unfinished...

Kelaiah In reply to DCLeadboot [2019-03-27 07:42:14 +0000 UTC]

Understandable. Heh heh heh, and suddenly I remember that one animation of him saying, "Well, I've got to tidy my room," in an attempt to get out of helping rake the leaves. I don't know why that should spring to mind.

Heh, cool. I used to like chocolate cereal, but over the years I began to prefer less sugary stuff. Like cornflakes, grapenuts (though I always liked those, even as a kid), and cheerios.

That's interesting, I never heard of taking eggs (hard-boiled or otherwise) with one's medication. I only ever think of drinking water when taking that stuff, though I've only ever had to take aspirin for headaches (though one year I had to take allergy pills for spring-time pollen; it was doctor's orders, though I haven't taken any pills since then, since the allergy is only minor).

Also understandable. Porridge always seems like the most flavorless and bland food there is.

I like sausage too. Whenever I'm eating breakfast in a restaurant (which happens very rarely) I like to have both bacon and sausage. I hate having to choose between the two. Never had black pudding, though.

I wonder how Danbuster would fare in the school district I work in. I've been told that I work too hard.

DCLeadboot In reply to Kelaiah [2019-03-27 14:33:00 +0000 UTC]

Heh, yeah... and Spencer making such a claim as having to tidy his room was an obvious lie, since they know he'd be too lazy to do that, even if it meant getting out of raking the leaves...

Yup, I still have quite a sweet-tooth...

Well, it was the advice of the MS nurse that I should take my medication at mealtimes with at least something substantial, since a common side-effect otherwise could be stomach pains. They're slow-release pills, I guess.

Yeah, got to have some flavour...

(From the Silver Chair - when travelling the Underworld with the Earthmen, the adventurers are given flat tasteless cakes/biscuits for sustenance)

Eustace: They have no taste.

Jill: Absolutely no flavour.

Puddleglum: (surprisingly, for a dour Marsh-Wiggle, he's the one comfort for the two children) At least it means they can't taste of anything nasty. I think they're rather nice.

Always love a good pork sausage or something... or any sausage that isn't full of garlic...

Bacon and sausage, eh? Like - devils on horseback? Or pigs in blankets? Whatever you prefer to call that...

Black puddings though, they're a kind of sausage, except one of their chief ingredients is animal blood. I don't fancy that idea at all.

And personally, not just because eating blood sounds squicky, I guess partly I still think of what God told Noah when he descended from the Ark after the Flood. From that day onwards, mankind and all animals were given permission to eat meat of animals... but not the lifeblood.

Danbuster: Hopefully, honest work is appreciated in your area?

Kelaiah In reply to DCLeadboot [2019-03-27 23:54:34 +0000 UTC]

Hah, yeah. I love how Danbuster tells him, "At least you can be *honest* and just say you don't want to help!"

I still enjoy the occasional sugary snack myself, although I've found that as I've gotten older, sweets appeal less and less to me. But I figure that's a good thing, because I discovered diabetes runs in my family. I don't think I've have it, but I still need to take good care of myself.

Ah, good recommendation. I have heard about taking pills with meals.

*snerk* Puddleglum's got a point. I'd rather have flavorless food than disgusting food. Thankfully, that's not the case.

Well, "devils on horseback" are bacon-wrapped dried fruit (though recipes do vary; also, just a fun fact of the day, "angels on horseback" are bacon-wrapped oysters), and "pigs in a blanket" are sausage wrapped in pastry (not the sugary kind), although I did read on wikipedia that in the UK, the sausages are wrapped in bacon. Which actually does sound pretty amazing. But when I was talking about liking both bacon and sausage, I really had no special name for it. Just "bacon and sausage."

Yeah, I looked up black puddings on google. They look... eh? Huh, that's very interesting, I had forgotten about that! Thanks for sharing. Though I did hear consuming blood isn't healthy to begin with, so of course God would tell the humans not to eat/drink it.

Oh yeah, everyone appreciates honest work where I live. Its just that some jobs require less attention than others. After all, there are some schools that are *so* huge, and *so* messy... and what's more, you only have 8 hours to do it all in. Sometimes cutting corners is called for. Besides, that's what summer break, spring break and winter break is for: taking the time to clean all the nitty-gritty parts. What's more, there's also the fact that once our 8 hours are up, we're no longer on the clock. So if we stay a little longer, we don't get paid for any extra work, or if we get hurt during that time, the district won't compensate; they won't be obligated to. I know some workers who, once their shift is over, they pack up and leave, regardless of the kind of job they leave behind - but usually they all do a good job anyway, so it doesn't matter.

He says it how it is, does Danbuster. He doesn't like dishonesty.

Ah yeah, got to watch out for that... Mum is a Type II herself, meaning she has to eat regularly and take tablets - thankfully, she doesn't have to inject insulin, because she'd never stand having to needle herself!

Heh, yeah... I guess that's why his folks said that he was too cheerful (for a Marsh-Wiggle) despite still showing the characteristic pessimism of his kind... still, he had a point... nobody wants to taste something nasty!

Yeah, our version of devils-on-horseback/pigs-in-blankets is a sausage wrapped in bacon... we usually have that as part of our Christmas dinner, along with the turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce and veg...

I sure can't understand why people would want to drink blood in the first place, so God sure had the right idea in restricting that practice, which is why the Jews would boil all the fat from their meat after spilling the blood of their atonement sacrifice on the altar.

Wow, sure sounds like you have plenty to fill up your 8 hours there!

I work 7.5 hours a day at Papworth (with a half-hour for lunch break) and yet, if there's not a transplant to document or new patients to list, I can be at a bit of a loose end some days, having to fall back on checking general records for post-op patient clinic visits that I can glean some information from to add to our specialised Tx Database.

Good for him. X) I like characters like that, they can be quite refreshing.

Ah, your poor mom. But yes, thank goodness she doesn't have to take injections. I'm very skittish around needles myself. I've only ever given blood twice in my life (once for a blood donation, the second for a doctor's appointment), and each time was weird and painfully awkward.

Hah! Oh my, if *he's* "too cheerful", I hate to meet any other Marsh-Wiggle. But yes, he is correct.

Mmmmm... that all sounds *good*.

Though I do recall eating bloody meat in the past before. It was because the steak was too rare, I think. Oh well, I believe in Jesus Christ as my Savior, so therefore all my sins are forgiven me. So I won't fret. X) But yes, that's why they did it.

Oh yes. We all keep busy.

Well, at least you get to memorize little details that could come in useful someday. Hopefully. X)

Heh, even Retsy has certain standards... like how he'll keep his word if he makes a promise - he might bend the rules, but the substantive principal stays the same. (Like, if he promises to help defeat some bigger villain, without mentioning that he intends to put forward his own agenda once the job's done)

Yeah, I don't think I could give blood... having bloods taken by the MS clinic is bad enough...

Yup!

Indeed, animal sacrifices aren't needed anymore, since Jesus paid it off in full.

Well, I guess I've learned a few skills from the job itself... patient details have to remain strictly private though, of course...

Heh heh, well, at least there's that going for him. Reminds me of Shere Khan from "Talespin."

Argh, the last time a nurse tried to take my blood, it took so long because I hadn't drank enough water, so the blood wouldn't come out as fast or as plentiful as it should. Plus I was so nervous I couldn't stop laughing.

Yes. I'm grateful for that.

Of course.

Heh, indeed... classy villains who have standards at least earn respect for being honourable.

That's what I prefer, of course... either a villain I can laugh at (like Eggman) or respect (like Barbossa) or even sympathise with (like Gollum)

Oh dear... that sure doesn't help...

Amen!

Agreed. X)

Understandable. When it comes to villains with absolutely no redeemable points, I'd like for them to die quickly so I don't have to put up with them anymore.

Nope.

DCLeadboot In reply to Kelaiah [2019-03-29 13:25:11 +0000 UTC]

Heh, yup... though what constitutes "no redeemable points" when characters like Maleficent, Judge Claude Frollo, Dr Facillier, Cluny the Scourge, Slagar (TV incarnation only, thanks to Tim Curry), Gabool etc are so evil, yet so memorable for how despicable they are...?

(Though along those same lines, Swart Sixclaw and Damug Warfang couldn't die fast enough)
