More like he was strong at first but then god (again Im not religious) gave him trials to help him grow stronger.

Well, putting it into general terms, he was always fit as a young mouse and spent a lot of time bodybuilding to get where he is now, in order to be strong enough to handle anything.
But after meeting Boaz and his other friends, and listening to the little mouse's teachings, he gave his life to the Lord and chose to use his strength for the good of others.Β He found he felt much happier about himself as a result.
Although he's still rather proud of his muscles and likes admiring his own physique, his heart is ultimately in the right place and he's protective of his friends.
