Description
This will be my final test program for now.I have taken the bombs yet another step further. You can now fire them from a cannon!
Use the arrow keys to set your angle and velocity (this took a bit of fuzzy maths to work right)
Press the Space bar when you are ready to shoot.
You can also click the five buttons on the left (or use keys 1 - 5) to change the border effects.
And while you're playing with my cannon, see how many targets you can hit!

Yeah, kind of a known bug that comes up if you manage to score a double-kill with one shot there.
And of course, the target placement is random.

Well, is it really a bug if it makes sense?

Another cool thing I found is that, if you set the walls to any setting but Concrete, set the Velocity to 100%, and keep turning the gun and firing rapidly, you get an experience rather like what machine-gunners got during World War I - that is, you're shooting fish in a barrel, it feels awesome, but your accuracy is terrible.

Heh, yeah - part of this prototype's purpose was to let me test out the walls... including Flubber!

There's actually a fun game of Russian Roulette you can play on the Cannon Wars game - set the walls to Wrap-Around, use Super Nukes, set the winds at "Hurricane", point the cannons straight up, set the velocity to 100%, and shoot.

Heh, heh... there's an idea!
Often, at the end of "no wind" game, I'd shoot a nuke straight up - of course, it comes straight down!

In order to perfect the Russian Roulette, I had to use the laser to set the cannons to the proper velocity without doing damage in the first round. Once all of the cannons matched, I just launched all eight Nukes and waited.

The first run of it was a perfect metaphor for actual nuclear warfare - nobody won.

After that the winners were pretty random.
By the way, you know how occasionally the game comes up with perfectly flat terrain? Very easy to mop up with a Laser in that kind of situation.

DCLeadboot In reply to Excalibur-T005 [2010-10-14 15:39:54 +0000 UTC]
I made a few basic generic terrain types, using the brush tool, that the game chooses randomly on start-up - of course, that included the nearly flat one!
And indeed, I know how easy it is to clean up those rounds with a laser-cannon... provided the angle is absolutely right, of course! Glancing shots only cause partial damage.

Also, the laser can be kind of a jerk move if you set the power just right. More than once I've left a CPU with exactly 1% health left. Only once has that CPU come back to kill me.

DCLeadboot In reply to Excalibur-T005 [2010-10-15 08:46:43 +0000 UTC]
I wouldn't have thought a CPU could kill anybody else with his health at 1%, since that would keep his velocity down to a bare minimum.
Usually, when cannons are down to that kind of level, they can do little more than commit hara-kiri!

The wind was pretty strong, so it carried the bomb over to my cannon.

Have u ever thought of doing 1 with moving targets? either side-to-side or towards u, at various speed, possibaly with customisable cannons (like here, a medievil cannon, a star wars laser cannon thingy, and others), targets (here, tie fighters, and stuff) and backgrounds (space and underwater and stuff)?

very kewl target prctice mate, seems to be never-ending. And i found a way how to hit the harder targets. You select wrap around and shoot it to the left and before it hits the ground, quickly switch to flubber.
nice 1 mate.

Crafty trick...
Yeah, the targets are programmed to reset themselves indefinitely... just keep shooting till you've had enough, basically.

I usually keep all my .fla's stored. When I'm finished with them, they go into a zip folder, leaving just the swf to play at my whim.

Through FlashKit.com. There were tutorials there to help me understand them and I built on them.
First it was the duplicateMovieClip() and removeMovieClip() commands, and then attachMovie()
