Nah, he's just doing a generic "rampant gryphon" pose for the picture.

I cannot state strongly enough how much I have always enjoyed rampant gryphons, dragons, lions and unicorns. It's one of the better points of life in the UK -- they're everywhere. (My two passports have a spread-legged eagle on one and rampant lion and unicorn on the other. How cool is that?) Anyway, Thoronraw broke the mold here because instead of the usual growl, grimace or serious expression, this particular sweetie is smiling.

Yup, gryphons and dragons are cool! Eagles too!
Thoronraw himself is a stoic but cheerful personality, who keeps a lot of his feelings inside - trying to repress the PTSD of his early days in captivity with a freak show (before Retsy rescued and befriended him)

Thoronraw definitely has it made as far as *THAT* regal pose goes! What majesty! What poise!

Wally: What a showoff!
Thoronraw: You're just jealous because you can't do it, being wingless!
Wally: You're right there...
Thoronraw: Not that you don't have your own qualities, obviously.
Thanks very much, Alex! I was certainly pleased with this one.

wait a minute... why does this look so... familiar?
Huh! That's almost the exact same pose as the "regional flag" of Hessen , a region in Germany, down to the tail-, arm-, and leg-positions.
Also, I'm guessing the "raised forearms ready to strike" part of the pose must be popular, because it's also on Berlin's "regional flag" too, which is what made it seem so familiar at first. Although now that I look at more closely, the Berlin-bear looks more like its a lot more on the defensive.
Although you can't really think of Thoronraw's posture as "aggressive" with a sincere smile like that. So... I guess it's more like him doing yoga.

Heh, heh... okay!
Yup, one of those common heraldic attitudes, known as "rampant"

It seems that, like many cultures in Britain, Germany also has some pretty cool coats-of-arms designs!
Of course, Thoronraw is just striking a familiar heraldic pose for the sake of the picture.

Well, I sure don't know why else a pose should be heraldic be familiar.
(No need to be shy... it's not like I'm not used to suggestive suggestions)

That said, he definitely wouldn't be out of place on a coat of arms...

Yeah, pretty sure Retsy could revamp his personal logo to include a gryphon somewhere...
Wally might also get a special mention in a subby capacity...

Quite the showman- er, showbird. Those emerald-green feathers... what a stately griff!

Heh, yup! Thoronraw sure knows how to strike a heraldic pose and still flash a cute smile at everyone!
Thoronraw: Thanks very much, Kel!

Just like any griff would! (I'm rather biased when it comes to griffins.
)
You're very welcome!

You're welcome, and whoops! Sorry; my American spelling and all...

DCLeadboot In reply to Kelaiah [2018-12-25 01:30:44 +0000 UTC]
Well, I'm not really sure whether "griffin" or "gryphon" is correct, but Thoronraw's very particular... having read Lewis Carroll

Kelaiah In reply to DCLeadboot [2018-12-26 01:36:19 +0000 UTC]
I think both are correct? Oh well, if Thoronraw's particular, I'll indulge him. "Gryphon." I'll try to remember that.

Indeed, I guess both work, but yeah...

Elvish lettering that states the heraldic attitude shown here...
(Retsy's a huge Tolkien fan)
