Description Like many Star Trek fan artists, I have come up with my own versions of the class of starships of which the USS Enterprise is the most famous. My designs always exist in alternate versions of the Star Trek universe as they always include elements that do not adhere to the generally accepted canon for Federation vessels. This 2018 personal version of the Constitution class is no exception. It has been an interesting challenge taking details from the various incarnations of the USS Enterprise and integrating them into a design aesthetic that reflects my personal tastes. It is a low-key, somewhat retro, and almost abstract design whose main influence is the USS Enterprise from the original TV series.  I am proud to say that I modeled the entire hull myself and used just a few detailing parts from other artists. A revised side view with updated stats was posted in July 2020.

I envision the Constitution Class Explorer as the largest example of long-range, long-duration exploration vessels that form the core of Star Fleet. In the era of the Constitution class, they are the flagships of the fleet.  In this alternate Star Fleet, ship types do not use the naval inspired categories that most fan artists employ. The bulk of the fleet is composed of various classes of small Surveyors performing scouting missions supplemented by a modest number of Patrollers serving on military missions.

I have replaced the original image with one that addresses the typo noted above. The main bridge is located in the small bulge just below the upper sensor dome. The ship is in the size range of the Federation ships in the JJ Abrams universe. My warp speeds are indeed different from the canon. I envision the vessel making quick warp tunnel transits as depicted in "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" rather than cruising for long periods at warp speed. These are a few reasons while I set my Star Trek work in alternate universe.

Nice look, however, you seem to have a typo with your crew. I guess, it's supposed to be 500 - 1000 instead of 500 - 100, as stated above. Also, I'm missing the main bridge, but I guess, with your Connie, the bridge has no need to be within the top-most deck...

And there seems to be something odd with your warp speeds (Warp 6 should be 216 times the speed of light, Warp 8 512 times the speed of light), but again, that might just be a convention of your alternate universe...

In total, I like the design. It looks very much like what I'd imagine a Connie in a Trek series from the 1950's.
