Specifics come later, but Max tends to have an interesting reaction to an influx of caffeine. And since Sam is the one who gave him that energy drink, I imagine Mom somewhat blames her.
Personally, I'm envisioning Max trying to swim upstream in the Mall Fountain like a salmon.

2 possible scenarios:
1. Max got hyped up and did some embarrassing stuff at the mall that Sam would rather forget.

Sam's sticking to the age old plan of denying everything while still coming down.
We have yet to see what pants Sam is wearing, and if it's a diaper, or 'less', or a pink tutu for punishment reasons. It could go either way so easily.

It would seem that I have not read The Official Orders Of list, and so, missed that. Max sure ends up in a diaper often enough, why not Sam?

Max only wears them for nighttime accidents, there is also Jowy and Anne who wear them for the same reason, the artist doesn't want to just go sticking all his characters into diapers since that's not what the focus of the comic is. There is a short section comic commissioned by someone, where Sam wound up in diapers, but she was just having a double-bad dream, that is the first and last of it's type according to Dcrisis. If you read the comment in those strips he actually says a few things about why Max does and Sam doesn't wear.
