it seems more likely that hes being haunted by a ghost (check the emoticon in the description it says "ghost" then the message under that says "welcome to my mind".....also the previous pages hint at it being one)
so it could be that the ghost dragged maxs consciousness into the ghosts own realm/reality/dimension or the ghost could be trying to absorb maxs consciousness to take over his body (though those are merely guesses im probably wrong)

In all honesty - while I do think that would be a kickass story - I don't think you're anywhere near the mark.
Yes, we've seen ghosts before in the comic, but that was once and almost a hundred strips ago, and other than giving us a (nicely done) bittersweet moment, they didn't have any impact on the world, the story, or the characters, and there hasn't been any sign - however big or small - that there were supernatural elements in this world: this strip has been a predominantly slice-of-life, gag-per-day comic about the day-to-day happenings of a group of kids in Mexico being kids. For the cartoonist to suddenly swerve to a fantasy story with no warning and so hard as to cause whiplash? I don't see it.

(also the bears constantly changing expressions seems pretty supernatural to me)
it all seems to be pointing to it being a ghost....there are two more possibilities that i can think of but none have as much proof as the ghost theory
if i were to go by however how dcrisis usually operates i would say that its all merely a dream (though that really doesnt make much sense as far as tying the story together unless he was to say that everything since september 17th was merely a dream....he could say that everything since the swing accident was a dream and max is still in a coma but i doubt he would troll people like that)

Okay, the second panel of Sept 17th does have a shadow, and since it's darker than the other background characters I can see the argument for it being a ghost, but I always thought of it as just someone in the distance.
The last panel of Sept 24th is the moment when reality shatters for Max, so it still fits my hallucination theory.
The balloon story of the may 1st - 5th seems more like a story that uses Rule of Funny rather than being supernatural, like how Max panics when the lights go out for two seconds, and the bear changing expressions can be explained the same way - dcrisisbeta is just having some fun.
And "Ghost Stories" looks like a one-off drawing dcrisisbeta came up with. Look at the copyright dates for the first strip he uploaded, "Ghost Stories", and the second strip he uploaded: 2011, 2012, and 2013 respectively. That's a big break to take between the first comic and the second. I don't think it's far fetched to think the first comic and "Ghost Stories" were just random one-off doodles he made while the idea for the comic bounced in his head. This supported by the fact that, in the summary for "Ghost Stories", dcrisisbeta refers to Sam as a boy, not the girl she is in the comic.
I can't really argue against Sept 23rd, though, cause yeah, that's a frakkin ghost.
But how does my hallucination theory not make sense? We know Max is extremely sick, and he's been sweating bullets since morning (Sept 20th) and it's been who-knows-how-many hours since (the strips leading to Sept 24th). It shows Max has a high fever, and people who have high enough fevers have been known to hallucinate. And since Max is a child, I don't think his fever needs to be that high for reality to start going bonkers for him.

That makes no sense.
Sept 17 and 18 are gag-per-day comics. What happened in those strips have not had any bearing on the current story arc, nor do they have any connection with previous arcs. They are stand-alones.
Sept 19, in the last panel, Max said his throat hurt, which I and plenty of other commentators took as a sign that Max would get sick, a guess that was confirmed with the Sept 20 strip. There's also a (small) implication that the events of Sept 19 is the night before the events of Sept 20 - 24.
Also, from Sept 20 on, we see Max visibly sweating, a sure sign he has a very high fever, and when you have a high enough fever, you can hallucinate.

sept 17 has a hidden message in the first panel and 2 eyes in the second as well as the shady figure
sept 18 has 2 hidden messages and it also has eyes located in all 3 panels
sept 19 he was not yet sick his throat was merely hurting there is also 2 eyes and 2 hidden messages located in that one as well even if he was supposedly running a fever on the 19th that would not account for the 17th and 18th

I never said he was sick in the Sept 19th comic, I was pointing out that his throat hurting was an indication of the illness he has now: Sept 19 acts as a prologue to the current story arc. And since Max started showing symptons on the 19th, Sept 17th and 18th don't have to be accounted for since they happened before the 19th and what happened in those strips have had no impact beyond those strips.
And yes, dcrisisbeta puts hidden messages and other extras in his comics, but unless they have some impact on the story and the characters and there is a clear connection of cause and effect, they're just extras for fans.

september the 17th was the first time he put the hidden messages and eyes in the comics thats how they are connected
everything from september 17th onwards is connected
september 17th the hidden message reads "hes watching" then in the 2nd panel you see a shady figure watching them (if you zoom in close enough you can see his eye and what looks to be an angry expression)
then on september 23rd a shady figure shows up yet again
(if you follow the hidden messages it would appear that they are one in the same)
