Description
I love Game of Thrones - books and TV series - and sometimes... I see titles of other works and think (perhaps not *entirely* farfetched) of certain characters and how it would probably do them some good to watch How to train your dragon or the like...I also absolutely love the hair and clothes designers who work on the TV show. I will never stop mentioning them when I go on about things I love about the TV show. You can see the culture differences at a glance
A Song of Ice and Fire belongs to the friendly George RR Martin, etc, etc.

Poor Sansa, though, is probably disappointed that "To Kill a Mockingbird" gives no useful information on killing mockingbirds.

Probably, but he really ought to play, I don't know, Dr Mario? Big Pharma? I'm honestly not familiar with a whole lot of medically themed games, but definitely one of them.

Good one. My thoughts exactly during the second season xDD But I think, unlike Yagami, she is more the person who actually wants to get her own hands dirty.

"How to Train Your Dragon" I get, but what is Sansa gonna learn from "To Kill A Mockingbird", it's a book about racism through a child's eyes set against the backdrop of the Great Depression.

Littlefinger's nickname is the Mockingbird.
In this case, she apparantly desires to kill him... odd, but maybe it's back from right after Ned's beheading.

Simple: Sansa is reading the wrong books, AGAIN! XD
If she wants to learn something, she should read Machiavelli or Sun Tzu. Or a book for cooking birds. XD

True, all she will learn for this book is to be nice to other people and NOT to kill mockingbirds.Β Β

Yeah the book even clearly states that killing a mockingbird is a sin but because they make beautiful songs

Littlefinger has a mockingbird as his personal sigil. It's all about the title.

As much as it shames me to admit, I never read "To kill a mockingbird". So I have to ask, what exactly is Sansa hoping to learn from that book?
π: 0 β©: 1
Ddriana In reply to Thejboy88 [2013-05-04 21:16:52 +0000 UTC]
Honestly, I haven't read it either, it's the title more than the content that I'm referring to (Littlefinger wears that silver mockingbird and all).

It didn't sound like it from your response here: "Probably absolutely nothing. It's just that its title makes me think about her XD"

Yes... that was about the contents of the actual book probably not being very helpful to her. Seeing how the book is not about killing mockingbirds (at least so I assume, not having read it). But the title makes me think about Sansa and Littlefinger, etc, etc.

Somehow, I don't see much help coming for either of their choices, lol.
Confession time: I've always wanted to see a meeting between Alistair and Jon Snow. With the exception of Alistair being a more upbeat character than Jon, they have similar backgrounds (though Alistair's is from a theory over whom Jon's mother is)

Sansa: "What's this nonsense about a lawyer? I thought this was a handbook on killing mockingbirds!"
Daenerys: "It's cute, but this teaches me nothing about training dragons!"
I'd imagine "Ghost, attack!" would come at the end of the conversation.

Ddriana In reply to honglong17 [2012-10-26 16:19:01 +0000 UTC]
I'd say definitely English. It's not my native tongue either, but I think Martin is good at using words that are new (to me) in a way that is easy to understand their meaning. (Aside from the words for different kind of horses - it took me ages to conclude that he was going on about a shaggy pony and not some kind of giant bird, because hey, fantasy, could totally be a giant bird...)
And, you know, translators actually edit the story too :I The company I considered doing test translations for gave me instructions to remove 10% of the original novel and adapt it to be more suited to Swedish culture. I suddenly had my explanation why English speaking Katherine Kerr fans had read a completely different Deverry series than I had -.-
