Oooh, I know I'm about two years late, but screw it. ^^' I looked up the reference you used and I must say it's marvelous how close you get to the real thing. I've never really watched the movies but anywho... From comments above... I think it's all the pins that make his face seem to change (and of course, actual changes. But that's beside the point.) Curious shadows and such. ANYWHO, I'll shut up now.

Glad you like it, this painting was kind of a milestone for me.
I don't think the Hellraiser serier is the all-time best though, but the character of Pinhead is the most charismathic.
He stands on his own, without the movies.

Doesn't much look like how I remember pinhead looking (facial structure wise), but it's a great painting nonetheless. I thought the Hellraiser movies were decent (first 2 anyways), but they pale in comparison to Barkers written fiction. Although having seen them after reading his fiction I could at least get some of the deeper meanings he was implying.

I had a screenshot/publicityshot as a model when I painted this, and he pretty much looked like this.
The face was drenched in bright light, so that might have been it.

oh yeah.... its so funny how they can come up with more then 3 movies usally the last ones suck...but sometimes the frist ones do....

I at the other hand love cheesy & campy movies, like Friday the 13th 1-10 [plus Freddy vs Jason], Halloween 1-8 etc. "The Exorcist" may be a better horrormovie, but if I wan't entertainment I prefer Jason any day.

Ok, that's rather rare though... likeing the later ones better.
Hell on Earth, part 3, I find especially boring.
Since Pinhead is separated from the human part of him [happens at the end of part 2] he becomes one dimensional, only evil that is.
There's no conflict.
But to each his own I guess.
