She may not be a miracle, but she sure is glamorous!

Self Critique: Not too sure I did the hip to our left correctly. The design of the wings kinda stray from the original more than I'd like it too.

Here she is finally, Ladybug! She hails from the 1981 arcade game called, well, Ladybug. The kicker though: she only exists on the arcade artwork , flyer, and advertising. In-game, you play as an actual ladybug. The game plays like a Pac-Man clone, except the maze has revolving doors, and rival bugs are let out in set intervals. Here's the gameplay itself if you're interested. I first caught wind of the Ladybug character and game from a recent episode of James & Mike Mondays where they covered homebrew retro games. The Atari 2600 conversion of the game was among the games featured (the first one actually). And the moment that cover was flashed, I had to take a closer look. And sure enough, She was definitely someone I wanted to draw!

Starting with the design of her outfit, I was gonna stay as close to the original as possible. Only addition I made to the design was adding spots to the boobs part of the one-piece since it was strange that there'd be spots everywhere but there. From there, I added a glitter effect to her one-piece, boots, and gloves to really up the glamour factor. For the pose, I didn't want to make a 1-to-1 replication of the pose from the original cover, but one that would kinda be reminiscent of it, like I was making an HD remake of the game of some kind.

At the beginning, I though that having the background look like the game's mazes would once again be retreading old ground, and so soon after doing Ms. Pac-Man and her background. So I decided on just doing the background from the arcade flier, albeit with a more updated look. Besides making the dots glow and adding shine on the border, I did some “Playstation”-like waves since having a simple gradient would just be too boring. Kinda wish I added some sparkles to it, like the later PS3 theme, but I figured it'd be a little too busy.

Done on Clip Studio Paint. Intuos4 Tablet used. Body-chan model traced for schematic skeleton, then drawn free-hand the rest of the way.
