BTW, although looks nice and friendly, Thranduil actually is a forbidding and cold king in the original novle.

ohh, didn'y know that ! Though, of course, Thranduil exudes authority and a bit of intimidation at the first sight... do you believe that maybe Legolas feels he's not loved by his father and that's why he go travel with Gimli (i read that on tumblr, if i remember correctly...)?

Actually, I believe that Laegolas is loved by Thranduil deeply, in an austere style of a king.
Thranduil is a Sindar, but he and his father helped the Silvan elves who lived in the greenwood to fight with the dark and rebuild their home. That is why he became the king of forest. Although he is cold sometime, but he is wise to know the difference between right and wrong.
For Lasgolas, Thranduil brought him up and taught him how to use the twin blades and bow. And said yes when his only son asked him to be a fellowship of the Ring...
It seems I said too much, and you know I am poor in English...But I think Thranduil is the right king and father who worth your love :3

I painted on paper with pencil firstly, and then took the pic of it. And I just open the PS to add the colours and textures.
But for some copyright issue, I have to draw the pear blossom on the pillows by myself... T_T
