Description "This is what you want? Perfection? Nothing wrong? Nothing real? They are lies...lies told to you by politicians and powerful people. Allow me to show you a new perspective..."- Kevin Ling/Mr. Corrupted , before using the Neurophysical power of Corruption to alter a victim's perception of the Human political system

Unified Earth Colonies/Government- The Unified Earth Colonies (UEC), also known as the Unified Earth Government (UEG), is the central civilian government that administrates over Earth and its colonies throughout a portion of the Orion Arm of the Milky Way galaxy. It encompasses the Colonial Administration Authority (CAA), the United Nations (UN), and the United Nations Space Command (UNSC). Initially conceived as a supranational entity on Earth in 2075, the UEG was reconstituted into a governing body in 2170 before gaining full autonomy from the UN in 2204. It would also begin governing colony worlds beyond the Solar system until the 2400s. Many Outer Colonies and some Inner Colonies began to doubt the idea of the UEG due to UNSC interference. This came to a head when the Secessionist Union and People's Occupation demanded outright autonomy for a dozen worlds in 2487 and eventually violent and open rebellion beginning in 2494. As the Human-Covenant War was raging, the UNSC assumed the governing function of the UEC in the face of possible extinction from the overwhelming Covenant threat. The United Nations Space Command ceased functioning as a governing body following the end of hostilities with the now dissolved Covenant Hegemony. The transfer of power back to the civilian authority of the UEG occurred on January 8, 2553, although no other notable change in the UNSC's political depth within colonial politics was ceded. President Damion Hughner remains the incumbent President of the Unified Earth Government since his inauguration in January 2553. The Unified Earth Government functions as a representative democracy, is headed by a President and maintains executive, legislative, and judicial branches. The Unified Earth Colonies Senate serves as the legislative branch of the government. A number of other executive offices are known to exist, among them the Minister of Information, the Secretary of Defense, and the Minister for the Colonies; though the last position is part of the CAA. Other executive ministries include the Department of the Treasury, under which operates the Internal Revenue Service. The Inner Territories Transportation Administration is an agency of the UEG that has authority over the security of public interstellar or interplanetary travel among the Inner Colonies. While the UEC is formally a confederation of independently governed worlds, Earth is in a privileged position over the colonies in the election process, which has been a source of discord with many colonials. Colonies are individually managed by planetary Governors, Presidents, Prime Minsters or so on that lead a world's government. The Colonial Administration Authority is the government branch that administers the various colonies that belong to the UEG. It keeps extensive files on every colony world and city under the UEG, available to UNSC members for planning missions. Even though it originally formed the UEG, the United Nations has been absorbed into a branch of the Earth government by the 26th century. Its role has been reduced to mediating various administrative tasks between Earth's similarly vestigial governing bodies. The Unified Interstellar Law acts as the overal legal framework for the UEG. Citizens of the UEC are legally referred to as “Terrans”, although that term is disputed due to “Terran” technically meaning ‘inhabitant of Earth’ and not all citizens are inhabitants of Earth, and because many deem it to be a subtle way of enforcing Earth’s control over the rest of Humanity.

President of the UEG- The President of the Unified Earth Government is the civilian elected position of head of state and head of government of the Unified Earth Colonies. The President directs the executive branch of the federal government and is the Commander-in-Chief of the United Nations Space Command. The President is responsible for selecting members of the Cabinet, and issues the commission to officers of the UNSC Armed Forces, the formal legal document that grants officers their authority. Article II of the UEC constitution establishes the executive branch of the federal government and vests the executive power in the President. The power includes the execution and enforcement of federal law and the responsibility to appoint federal executive, diplomatic, regulatory, and judicial officers. Based on constitutional provisions empowering the President to appoint and receive ambassadors and conclude treaties with foreign powers, and on subsequent laws enacted by Congress, the President has primary responsibility for conducting Unified Earth Colonies foreign policy. The President also plays a leading role in federal legislation and domestic policymaking. As part of the system of checks and balances, the Constitution gives the President the power to sign or veto federal legislation. Since Presidents are also typically viewed as the leaders of their political parties, major policymaking is significantly shaped by the outcome of Presidential elections, with Presidents taking an active role in promoting their policy priorities to members of Congress who are often electorally dependent on the President. The President is elected indirectly through the Electoral College to a four-year term, along with the Vice President. No person who has been elected to three presidential terms may be elected to a fourth, though in certain times of crisis, this rule has been known to be relaxed. During the Human-Covenant war, the United Nations Space Command took powers from the UEG and acted as an emergency government, with Presidents serving during this time becoming little more than glorified civil servants only able to make choices which did not affect or hinder the war effort. In the aftermath of the Human-Covenant War, Fleet Admiral Lord Joshua Sabre organised the official transition of power back to the President and the UEG from the United Nations Space Command, which had acted as Humanity's emergency government during the war. In 2553, numerous politicians and academics contended for the office of President. Ultimately, the Jovian Moons Senator Damion Hughner was elected to the post, replacing the President that served in the final years of the war in the form of Andy Wilson.

The Terran House- The Terran House is the official residence and workplace of the President of the Unified Earth Colonies. It is located in Sydney, Australia and has been the residence of every UEG president since Rosalinda Paxton in 2204. The term "Terran House" is often used as a metonym for the President and their administration. The Terran House takes much inspiration from the White House of the United States President from which its name is derived and even uses the same Aquia Creek sandstone the White House is made of, though said stone is not fully painted over and remains predominantly a sandy brown colour. What paint there is would be the thin accents of light blue running throughout and the small ornate patterns of significant moments in Human history tastefully spread out in different spaces across the walls and arches of the building. The different continents, countries, islands and oceans of Earth are sculpted throughout the exterior, which signify the Terran House’s ultimate affiliation with planet Earth. Furthermore, every country on Earth contributed at least one block of sandstone used to build the Terran House as a symbolic gesture showing that after so much national and racial division in humanity’s past, the species has become united under one banner. To further emphasise this, the walkways, the paths, floors and ceilings of the inside of the house, its balconies and conservatories are engraved with shapes of each of Humanity’s different colonies across the galaxy, even those that have split from the UEG. Whilst it becomes increasingly difficult and distracting to add new colonies to the Terran House’s grounds with there being less and less space to add them every time a new one is formed, they are each to be added as a show of the President’s desire not to alienate the colonies.

UEG Cabinet- The Cabinet of the Unified Earth Colonies is a body consisting of the Vice President of the UEG and the heads of the executive branch's departments in the government. It is the principal official advisory body to the President of the UEC. Members of the Cabinet are selected by the President of the Unified Earth Colonies. Seats on the Cabinet include the likes of the Minister for the Colonies, Secretary of State, Minister of Information, Secretary of Defense, as well as other heads of departments, appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, and acting department heads also participate in Cabinet meetings. The Cabinet as an entity does not have any collective executive powers or functions of its own, and no votes need to be taken. The members of the Cabinet serve at the pleasure of the President, who can dismiss them at any time without the approval of the Senate, or downgrade their Cabinet membership status. Though the Cabinet is an advisory board, the Vice President, together with a majority of the heads of the executive departments, may declare the President "unable to discharge the powers and duties of their office" should any harm, distress or otherwise befall the President. In this situation, the Cabinet’s members are, if eligible, in the presidential line of succession.

UEG Senate- The Unified Earth Government Senate is the upper chamber of the UEG Congress, the House of Representatives being the lower chamber of the bicameral legislative branch of the Unified Earth Government. The Senate convenes in the north wing of the Congressional Plaza on Earth. Its primary duties are to mediate any disputes between different star systems, colonies and cultures, to regulate trade between systems, to protect and care for citizens in need and to provide mutual defence in face of threats to humanity. The UEG Senate is also responsible for writing the Unified Interstellar Law, the legal system of the Unified Earth Colonies. The Senate is composed of hundreds of Senators from colonies (and sometimes even nations) under the UEG, who are each elected directly or are appointed by their colony’s leader (or even are the colony’s leader) and represent their colony/nation-state in its entirety. The Vice President of the UEG serves as presiding officer and President of the Senate by virtue of that office, and has a vote only if the senators are equally divided. In the Vice President's absence, the President pro tempore, who is traditionally the senior member of the party holding a majority of seats, presides over the Senate. Diplomats, religious figures, local political leaders, and other prominent people can address the Senate as part of a senatorial delegation. Senators, however, are the only members with voting power, with representatives organised into the House of Representatives, although they can be appointed by their absent Senators as their temporary substitute, and still have a minor voice in Senate business. The full Senate convenes on a regular basis, although the meetings are unscheduled in advance, and can sometimes even reach up to 100 full assemblies per year. The order of the day is composed of a series of day-long meetings in committees and subcommittes in formal and informal situations. Most of the negotiation and diplomacy, however, happens behind the scenes, in the ambassadorial offices away from the main chamber. Parties in the Senate have to be relevant to the entire UEG. For example, a colony’s individual political parties which are relevant only to that colony’s issues are unable to be represented on the Senate. Therefore, a Senator who is a member of one of their colony’s local parties will most likely be a part of a larger political party with aligning interests, and during the election of senators, whichever party is represented by a colony on the UEG Senate will be the banner they fly under during said election. One of the organisations within the senate is the Senate Armed Forces Committee, charged with legislative oversight of the United Nations Space Command. The committee consists of twelve senators. Despite their positions within the UEG, senators were often kept unaware of the Office of Naval Intelligence's more controversial activities, such as the conscription of the soldiers of the SPARTAN-II program.

UEG House of Representatives- The UEG House of Representatives is the lower house of the UEG Congress, with the Senate being the upper house. Together they compose the bicameral legislative branch of the Unified Earth Colonies. The House is composed of representatives who sit in congressional districts allocated to each colony on a basis of population as measured by the UEG Census, with each colony having one representative, provided that each colony is entitled to at least one. The House is charged with the passage of colonial legislation, known as bills, which, after concurrence by the Senate, are sent to the President for consideration. The House also has exclusive powers: it initiates all revenue bills, impeaches federal officers, and elects the President if no candidate receives a majority of votes in the Electoral College. The House meets in the south wing of the UEG Congressional Plaza. The presiding officer is the Speaker of the House, who is elected by the members thereof (and is the leader of the majority party). The Speaker and other floor leaders are chosen by Caucuses or Conferences, depending on whichever party has more voting members.

Autonomist Party- Formed by UEG Senator Damion Hughner, the Autonomist Party is quite possibly the most progressive political party of any significance in the entire UEG. Formed as the brainchild of Senator Hughner, who believed in a future for Humanity which left behind the lies, corruption and greed of the Federalist and Intermutual parties and involved peace and cooperation with the Covenant’s member species for a better tomorrow, an end to the UNSC’s proxy wars on Insurrection and a rejuvenation of the UEG’s public services such as healthcare and benefits which had suffered greatly over the course of the Human-Covenant War.

Primum Terrae- Both the name of a political party and stance, Primum Terrae (Earth First) has come to embody many of the stereotypical attitudes of people from the Inner Colonies. Primum Terrae not only prioritises the prosperity of Earth and the Inner Colonies of the UEG, but also believes Humanity and the various alien races it has now encountered should be separate, that Humanity should be able to stand alone without other species. Whilst not officially racist in its goals, Primum Terrae has inevitably come to be a rallying point for Human-supremacists and xenophobes alike, who continually justify their viewpoints by hiding behind the party’s not-so-extreme policies. Primum Terrae itself has come to be viewed as merely ‘humanocentric’ whilst many of its supporters and indeed members are actual Human supremacists, and Primum Terrae tends to exhibit many ignorant behaviours befitting of its largely bigoted composition.

Federalist Party- Formed as a very conservative, corporate-lobbied party, the Federalist Party is ultimately dedicated to defending the interests of interplanetary corporations, often pandering to their wants whether it is for the good of the people or not. The Federalists are very much the ‘big business’ party of the 26th Century, and are often focused on trying as hard as possible to keep colonies from seceding from the UEC, as that makes it harder for companies to do business. However, the more they try, the more they make people in these colonies wish they could leave, which is one of the main reasons why the Insurrection started.

Centralist Party- Recently ironically dubbed the “radical centrists”, the Centralist Party was originally formed as a “kinder” alternative to the Federalists, instead focusing its stance on committing all of Humanity under one single authority, doing away with the bureaucracy of numerous agencies, committees and unnecessary governmental branches which overcomplicate politics. The only problem is the Centralists want that authority firmly based in the Solar System with considerably little input from extrasolar colonies, as part of a strategy to limit the time it takes to make decisions due to representatives from all across Human space having to congregate either physically or digitally, which can be a greatly troubling task. This didn’t make the Centralists all too popular, cause most people viewed a government led only by a handful of Solarians would lead to awful decisions being made as they would not be made by those who understood the needs of other worlds. To amend their reputation, the Centralists later leaned into misconceptions of what their name actually meant and campaigned on a platform of centrism and neoliberalism, which won them the odd Presidential election every now and then. Today, the Centralists are experiencing a divide between the “True Centralists”- those who still support the party’s original intents and its ideals of neoliberalism, and the “Radical Centrists”- a group disillusioned with how the Centralists have effectively turned into the Federalist party but ‘nicer’ and encourage voters to look at individual issues, start from the centre of the political spectrum and decide what they think based on their own beliefs, rather than sticking to their “team”.

Intermutual Party- Formed in opposition to the Federalists’ apathy towards and squandering of important social issues, the Intermutual Party has its roots in the likes of the British Labour Party, and set out to give people an alternative to the lobbyism and corporate preference the Federalists represented. For some time, the Intermutuals were successful in doing so, and were able to protect workers’ rights from the increasingly dominant power of corporations and private interests, however in more recent decades the Intermutuals have been slipping and taking the support they have for granted, which has cost them more elections than they’d like to admit. They’ve also started to take corporate sponsorships at an alarming rate, and many fear they are now no different to the Federalists.

United Nations/UN- The United Nations (UN) is an international Earth-based organisation, and the predecessor of the United Nations Space Command and the Unified Earth Government. By the 26th century, the UN has been absorbed into a branch of the UEG and has become a largely vestigial entity, acting as a local administrative body among the national governments of Earth. It aims to maintain international peace and security on Earth, develop friendly relations and cooperation among its nations, and be the centre for harmonising the political actions of Earth. The UN is headquartered on international territory in New York City, and has other main offices in Geneva, Nairobi, Vienna, and The Hague. The UN has six principal organs: the General Assembly; the Security Council; the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC); the Trusteeship Council; the International Court of Justice; and the UN Secretariat. The UN System includes a multitude of specialised agencies, funds and programmes such as the World Bank Group, the World Health Organization, the World Food Programme, Global Water Campaign, UNESCO, and UNICEF. Additionally, non-governmental organisations may be granted consultative status with ECOSOC and other agencies to participate in the UN's work. The UN's chief administrative officer is the Secretary-General, currently the Japanese politician and diplomat Tsuchiya Wako. The organisation is financed by assessed and voluntary contributions from its member states. Evaluations of the UN’s effectiveness, particularly in the age of the UEG, have been mixed. Some commentators believe the organisation to still be an important force for governing Earth and maintaining relations with the colonies, while others have said that it, being the central Human planetary government closest to the UEG’s heart, is given preferential treatment by the UEG which holds significant bias towards it and the Inner Colonies. The UN was established after World War II with the aim of preventing future wars, succeeding the rather ineffective League of Nations. On 25 April 1945, 50 governments met in San Francisco for a conference and started drafting the UN Charter, which was adopted on 25 June 1945 and took effect on 24 October 1945, when the UN began operations. Pursuant to the Charter, the organisation’s objectives include maintaining international peace and security, protecting human rights, delivering humanitarian aid, promoting sustainable development, and upholding international law. At its founding, the UN had 51 member states; and membership now  encompasses all of the Earth’s nation states. By the time humanity began colonising the other planets of the Solar System in the late 21st century, the nations of Earth were not yet united under a single government, though the United Nations held considerable power over humanity. In the early years of humanity's interplanetary colonisation, it was mainly commercial interests that propelled outward expansion into the Sol System, the colonisation programs initiated by Earth's national governments themselves being far less ambitious and efficient. Free of the restrictions of international law, many corporations operating in the colonies- particularly those on Mars, conducted extensive research and development into bio- and nanotechnologies. While these efforts yielded many new technological advancements, abuses by the corporations also generated major ethical concerns. To regulate the activities of the off-world corporate entities, particularly in the area of genetic technology, the UN extended the UN Genetic Rights Act to cover the colonies in 2165. This piece of legislation would later serve as the basis for the latter UN Mortal Dictata Act. In 2160, United Nations Colonial Advisors were attacked on Io sparking the Jovian Moons Campaign. UN forces clashed against dissident forces again in 2162 in the Rainforest Wars. One year later, the UN commissioned a military force primarily made up of naval and marine forces, referred to as the United Nations Space Command (UNSC). With an approach echoing the policies of the United States in the early 21st century, the United Nations took charge of Earth's national governments as well as their disparate military forces. By 2164, UN-backed militaries began a pattern of massive buildups leading into the Interplanetary War. Following the war in 2170, the United Nations formally established the Unified Earth Government (UEG) as humanity's combined governing entity from then on while the UNSC became a preeminent military body for Earth's "empire". The UNSC from this point forward began working in direct conjunction with and to enforce the directives of the UEG. By the 26th century, the UN had become greatly diminished from its height in the mid-22nd century. Its function was relegated to overseeing administrative tasks on Earth, essentially a role similar to that for which it was originally created, with supreme power over the human race at large at the hands of the UEG. After the beginning of the Human-Covenant War, the UNSC gained ultimate control of the UEG and its branches, including the UN, as humanity's emergency military government. The UNSC returned power back to the civilian government on January 8, 2553.

Colonial Administration Authority/CAA- The Colonial Administration Authority (CAA), also known as the Colonial Administration or Colonial Authority, is an organisation under the ultimate control of the Unified Earth Government. Formed alongside the Colonial Military Authority in 2310, the CAA acted as a secondary governing body that helped the UEG regulate the various colony worlds of Humanity. It serves as the administrative body for the colonies of the Unified Earth Government. New and developing worlds which did not yet have the adequate infrastructure in place to begin functioning as full-fledged individual governments came under more direct governance from the Authority, meaning that in this capacity, the CAA governed new colonies in the UEG's name, its bureaucrats aiding in the management of population and employment, providing power for new colonies, and ensuring the quality of colonial infrastructure. However, all new colonies maintained sovereignty to some degree, as mandated by the Colonial Authority's own charter. In recent years, the Colonial Authority's influence has become marginalised. The CAA kept extensive files on every colony, world, and city under its care. The document containing these files was referred to as the CAA Factbook. These files contained everything from topographic maps to the information on the materials the city sewer system was built from. The CAA provided this information to UNSC military forces upon request, and it could be very helpful when defending colonies from Covenant attack. In addition, the CAA oversaw the Outer Colony vaccination program which held the largest DNA database of the human population. The Colonial Military Authority served as the military and policing arm of the CAA, until it was folded into the United Nations Space Command in 2497. While the CMA maintained its own fleet, its strength eventually shrunk as the UNSC encroached on the CMA's power and influence before absorbing the organisation entirely. The CAA formerly housed its own intelligence agency, the Department of Colonial Security. When the CAA lost its power, the DCS was incorporated into the Office of Naval Intelligence. The CAA was also responsible for the colonisation of worlds, as evident by the "CAA" ship prefix on their colony ships, such as CAA Butterworth and CAA Casbah. The seal of the Colonial Authority is a looming profile of an iconic eagle in a circle of seventeen bright stars. The eagle's wing shelters a group of colonists, their hopeful eyes watching a fleet of sleek colony ships flying along the eagle's upturned beak- an image that suggested expansion through unity. Formed after the invention of the Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine, the CAA was tasked with planning for humanity's extra-solar settlement and colonisation, spending the following decades preparing for the inevitable exodus from the Sol system that would occur. The Domus Diaspora began as colony ships left Sol to settle worlds in other systems, beginning with Reach and Tribute in the Epsilon Eridani system. Prior to the onset of the Insurrection, many individuals felt sympathy for the rebels, blaming the Colonial Authority's heavy-handed bureaucrats for their increasingly poor understanding of the unique challenges among the Outer Colonies. However, as more radical insurgent factions abandoned politics, negotiations, and protesting for violence, targeting military infrastructure and key CAA supporters, support for the rebels soon died out as their actions grew more extreme. CAA buildings and personnel were heavily targeted by rebels late in the war. In 2497, the CMA was reorganised and absorbed into the United Nations Space Command, following a series of scandals throughout the Insurrection. Over the course of the Human-Covenant War, the Unified Earth Government granted substantial authority to the UNSC as a result of emergency powers and breakdown of interstellar governance. The CAA was more resistant to the takeover than the UEG proper, and thus it was stripped of most of its power. Despite this, the CAA Factbook was still being updated as late as 2550. Following the Covenant War, power was restored to the UEG and the CAA returned to its administrative duties as a division of the UEG, although the CAA's influence has become marginal.

United Nations Space Command/UNSC- The United Nations Space Command is the UEG's primary military, exploratory, and scientific arm. The UNSC is intended to protect colonists and colony worlds from attack by pirates, Insurrectionists and other threats, such as the Covenant. It includes various special forces and militia organisations but is composed primarily of five branches: the Marine Corps, the Navy, the Army the Air Force, and the recently formed Spartan Operations. The UNSC also maintains a number of scientific organisations, among them UNSC Astrophysics, while the UNSC Engineering Corps is devoted to surveying viable planets for colonisation or terraforming. At several times during the Insurrection and for a majority of the Human-Covenant War, the UEG had given the UNSC operational autonomy. The UEG's member nations and individual colonies maintain their own standing militaries, though none are nearly as powerful or as significant as the UNSC. Prospective members of the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers are drawn from the ranks of national and colonial special operations groups as well as from the UNSC's own forces. The UEG also employs its own naval forces for policing, including police cutters. Currently, the UNSC contributes personnel and resources to the Trident of Revelation - a coalition alliance shared between it and the Allied Sangheili Houses ’ Swords of Sangheilios, a group that has been highly divisive in galactic events as of recent, but one that many feel will eventually surpass both the UNSC and the Swords equally.

Colonies- Under the administration of the Unified Earth Government, Humanity has surveyed and colonised a wide radius of the Orion Arm of the Milky Way galaxy over 200 years of superluminal travel via slipstream space, following nearly three centuries of expansion across the Sol system. The planets under the jurisdiction of the UEG, together with humanity's homeworld, are collectively referred to as "Earth and Her Colonies". Human space is divided into three regions: the Sol system itself, the well-developed Inner Colonies, and the recent and struggling Outer Colonies. By 2490 there were over 800 worlds under Human control, ranging from small outposts and settlements to thriving colonies and military strongholds. New and developing worlds which did not yet have the adequate infrastructure in place to begin functioning as full-fledged individual governments came under the direct governance of the Colonial Administration Authority. Originally military oversight for these colonies was provided chiefly by the Colonial Military Administration, though the UNSC eventually usurped its duties due to widespread corruption in the CMA's ranks. The UEG and UNSC's rapid colonial expansion efforts led to a massive, unexpected setback at the dawn of the Human-Covenant War. Influence over these worlds was greatly reduced by the Covenant Hegemony during the war, with only Earth and a few scattered colonies left mostly intact by the end of the conflict in 2552. Since the end of the conflict the UEG has worked to restore its galactic territories and avoid secessionism and has even recolonised some of its former worlds, though many, particularly among the few surviving disgruntled Outer Colonies which now resent the UEG more than ever, have since formed their own independent governments and refused to rejoin.

Global Water Campaign/GWC- The Global Water Campaign, or GWC, is a Human government initiative specialising in purifying and distributing water. The initiative originated in the 24th Century in the East African Protectorate, where it purified and transported melt water from Mount Kilimanjaro. Most notably, the initiative operates the GWC Trans-African Pipelines that carry the still relatively clean melt water for distribution across the entire continent. In addition to Earth, GWC is based on other UNSC colonies, including the agricultural regions of Reach. By the 26th century, the main water purification facility in Africa had fallen into disrepair, while other facilities still continued to be more or less active. It is apparent that the activity of the GWC continued elsewhere, as evidenced by the operational status of some of the initiative's facilities, and the fact that relatively new water barrels with "GWC" printed on them were still commonplace during 2552.

East African Protectorate- Comprised of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan, the East African Protectorate was formed out of a proposed federation of the aforementioned countries in the early 21st Century. Originally doubted as a lasting entity, today the EAP is one of the most economically and politically powerful national unions on Earth, and its capital, New Mombasa, is the centre of much Earth-based trade. Numerous powerful corporations and government agencies have based headquarters in New Mombasa, and the city was chosen as one of seven ‘tether cities’ upon which a space elevator was constructed. The East African Protectorate was founded in 2279 after a long series of political discourse over the uniting of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda spearheaded by Kenyan Foreign Secretary Hami Bamgboshe. Hoping to bring prosperity to their corner of the Earth, the EAP began by draining the swamps of its Member nations, forming a formidable anticorruption taskforce to weed out self-serving bureaucrats and civil servants, the most high-profile of which being the arrest of Tanzanian President Barika Balewa, who was charged with pulling government funds to pay for the continuous renovation of her private space station and founding several false charity organisations. The EAP quickly negotiated trade deals with other countries across the Earth, reaping the rewards of an increased interest in Africa as a world manufacturer and financial hub, in large part due to the fact that the continent’s cities were left in much less of a state of ruin than others from the conflicts of the Interplanetary War. The EAP received the honour of having the first space elevator constructed in it in 2302 in New Mombasa, Kenya, concentrating Solar trade and travel in the city for many years and causing businesses to flock to the EAP. By 2329 the EAP was a world leader in several industries, and has since expanded to include Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan.

United Republic of North America/URNA- The United Republic of North America, or the URNA, is an association between the nations of Canada, Mexico and the United States. By the late 23rd Century, the US had fractured, losing several member states such as Kentucky, Idaho, North and South Carolina, New Mexico, California and Florida, largely due to issues with soil and the focus of farming now lying on the shoulders of Earth’s many colonies instead. These states seceded from the union due to believing that they weren’t needed anymore, and for all intents and purposes, they weren’t. The entirety of Earth fell under the governance of the Unified Earth Colonies, which was largely ignoring petty national disputes as most of Earth’s nations were becoming merely cultural icons at this point. The United Nations, the Earth-based branch of the UEC, was only interested in assuring that these new ‘free states’ did not leave the UN, as that would, by extension, mean leaving the UEC and political instability. Some had come to believe that the unification of governments and the increasingly rapid colonisation of other planets meant Earth’s nations now had no power, and many in the free states wanted to show they still mattered. They believed they needed to govern themselves without the UN or the UEG’s prying eyes if they were to actually introduce policy to help Earth-based farming and soil quality. With each of these free states threatening to abandon their inheritance of UN membership, they began experimenting with different forms of government, and it was believed that great action by US President Dorothy Harnell was needed to reestablish unity to the US. With public focus shifting to the free states and their next moves, much of Canada began to look to the free states for inspiration, fearing that the UN’s previous promises of organising works to improve soil quality were becoming increasingly empty. Meanwhile, in Mexico, similar fears were shared that the UN was not going to provide the needed assistance, and drug cartels among all three nations began supporting independence groups through front organisations in order to make the public more in favour of either independence, or pressure on the UN to introduce its plans for soil works already so they could grow more product domestically and without the costs of interstellar transportation. This increased unrest in the free states and among their supporters, with evidence that they were mobilising a military force led to UEG President Yeyman Clark and UN Secretary General Henchi Tarkov demanding that President Harnell make a decision on how to approach the situation or else the UN would for her. Harnell said that that would only mean giving the free states what they wanted, but she agreed regardless and a week later announced a combined effort between the US, Mexico and Canada to declare war on the free states and their supporters. The resultant North American Conflict (Also known as the Second American Civil War) was a short-lived war which ended in the defeat of the free states and their supporters. Few actual battles and casualties took place, though that was largely due to close relations between people in different countries preventing soldiers from going to the extreme and a feeling that warring over these matters was not worth it which ground many battles to halts. The rate of mutinies and disobedience of orders was one of the highest recorded in human history, and support for the war very quickly died. As the free states signed a reunification treaty, the United States returned to its original state, but the shared interests of the US, Mexico and Canada of reviving agriculture led to an announcement shortly after that the three nations would combine into one- the United Republic of North America, so their struggles could be jointly addressed and the countries would each gain a larger say as a collective in the UN Congress. Three years later, after a long, laborious process in figuring out the specifics and details of this Union, President Harnell stepped down to usher in the new US First Governor Paul Sampson and The first URNA President Javier Odasquez, who introduced the North American Agricultural Regeneration Scheme, which successfully completed its goal of restoring farming viability to the continent and would become a model for similar schemes in other countries across the planet. Today, the URNA enjoys power as one of the strongest nations in the UN and one of the most important political entities of the UEG.

Demopublican/Republicrat Party- As the importance of national governments on Earth continued to deteriorate, the United States found it harder and harder to retain dominance in Human society. Though American culture and even governmental systems were popular and adopted by the UEC government, the actual power the US exerted was little. Sure, it was one of the major forces influencing the United Nations, the UEG’s department for the governance of Earth, but American politicians and patriotic citizens felt that they had been born in an era of bygone glory. Even though the UN and Earth was the most prized and important world and government in the entire Unified Earth Colonies, the States had to share that power with many nations which had now come to challenge US supremacy in the UN Congress. The East African Protectorate, Australia, Canada, China, India, Mexico and Russia were all examples of these challenges. To overcome them, Democratic and Republican politicians, who were finally, after hundreds of years of two-party politics, being challenged by a strong multiparty system, agreed upon a coalition government with one another. This alliance was viewed as temporary, simply formed to keep decision making in the US straightforward so they could focus on the retention of power without succumbing to the other parties. Few thought this could ever last- Democrats were simply too liberal and progressive over social issues whilst Republicans were too conservative and hesitant. What these people did not realise was just how perfect this marriage was- the coalition and how smoothly it went over proved to many Americans that all this time, the Democrats and Republicans were in fact, for all intents and purposes, the same party. Both were equally as conservative and progressive as one another. In many ways, people realised that the Democrats had always played the role of the ‘nicer Republicans’. Of course, there were differences, but these were mainly locked in humanity’s racially, culturally and sexually divided past. Now, with most people accepting social liberalism, the true colours of both parties that had for long ‘distinguished’ them were revealed. With protests emerging against the coalition and the US population finally declaring a need for true change, the coalition responded by transforming their coalition government into a full-on party, running officially as the Democratic-Republican Alliance Party in the next election, though the people and the media would coin them the ‘Demopublican’ or ‘Republicrat’ Party. These names tended to depend on which party one in the past may have leaned more towards, and, naturally, which part of the United States someone was from. Though projections over the election’s results saw the party losing, the Demopublicans pulled through and won the next US election, but even then it didn’t seem to matter- humanity had moved on from the squabbles of national governments. It was all about what all the planets themselves wanted and this change would not massively affect the UN or the UEG. After the formation of the URNA, the Demopublicans managed to regain power in the UN thanks to a bolstering of the nation to include the US, Canada and Mexico, though with the power of the Democratic Socialist Party rising, the Demopublicans have experienced great challenges.

South Africa- Perhaps the most diverse country on Earth and a nation that has come to challenge the USA and later URNA as the true leader of the free world, South Africa has come a long long way since the days of apartheid and its later struggles with corruption. Now enjoying a reputation as one of Earth's greatest testaments to the idea of democracy working, South Africa holds a considerable amount of power in the politics of the United Nations and the UEG. Whilst not as powerful as the EAP, the nation has proven itself more than capable of competing with it on the world stage economically.

People’s Republic of China- By the 26th Century, even China’s own politicians wonder why the hell they still consider themselves “Communist”. The government’s employees line their pockets with bribe money and embezzlements from charitable schemes, considerable favouritism towards the upkeep of cities has been given at the expense of the farms in the countryside, the country is a hub for corporate and private interests, who invest trillions into advanced laboratories, factories and all sorts across China, and the sheer amount of public surveillance…well, that’s kind of stayed the same. On the bright side, it’s no longer a dictatorship. Officially. As one of Earth’s oldest civilisations and a planetary superpower, China holds considerable sway over much of the UN’s decision-making. Even during the Domus Diaspora, the country continued to have a large amount of power in Human society, thanks mainly to its eagerness to support colonisation and numerous programmes that were set up to rigorously train colonists for Humanity’s next frontier. SinoViet Heavy Machinery, one of Humanity’s most influential and powerful conglomerates originally formed as a joint government programme between China and Vietnam, is headquartered in both Beijing and Hanoi. SinoViet dominates much of China’s politics, economy and industry and even policing, as much law enforcement has been outsourced to the corporation. Though the hardcore Maoist Stronghold faction in the government would disagree, SinoViet has indeed fought for a restoration of China’s dictatorship- believing that a strong, straightforward political process is needed in China to avoid the country slipping into complacency, but mainly cause it would make it easier to do business. This is mainly why China has held onto its reputation as a police state despite its new, more democratic system. You still need permits to do pretty much anything- buying a TV, building a garden, even owning a bicycle. Though the process of acquiring said permits has been streamlined and is even automatically granted by A.I in some cases, you need a giant pair of scissors to cut through the Orwellian red tape of everyday life in China, and people are starting to get sick of it. Of course, if you manage to find a shortcut through all those restrictions, you’ll still have to get past SinoViet, who own half the licensing rights to products and services in the country and pick up the “slack of freedom” that the government leaves behind to a point where critics believe that SinoViet is simply China’s way of getting around the UEG’s rules about freedom of speech and press and civil autonomy- and can get away with it cause it supplies pretty much everything to the People’s Liberation Army, which is more than happy to do the corp a favour. Another supposed tactic that SinoViet is criticised for attempting to use is its intent to bring back mass production to China, as the Interplanetary War turned many African nations into the new industrial powerhouses of the world. This explains SinoViet’s investments into Chinese factories and its fierce competition with Traxus Heavy Industries- its bitter rival, for domination of the sector at home. China is a remarkably beautiful country as many former members of the Covenant have acknowledged, and in the country exists a sizeable Sangheili population who have immigrated there largely out of respect to the country’s dedication to public works and out of a desire to practice Buddhism.

Vietnam- Along with Lebanon, Vietnam is one of Earth's largest wood suppliers and furniture manufacturers, but also Earth's largest coffee growing region, second to Brazil. The civilian environment of Vietnam is plagued by religious cults such as worshippers of Asian demons and corrupt Buddhist monks as well as constant rates of poaching, littering/pollution, seaborne piracy, kidnapping and smuggling of illegal goods, possibly due to Park Ranger forces being understaffed. Some believe these problems have been intentionally brought upon the country by secret branches of SinoViet Heavy Machinery, in order to gain the favour of the government by putting out fires and bringing order to the civilian population. Unlike Kenya's cities including New Mombasa, Vietnam’s local governments have honest and staunch local police departments, with seemingly nice police officers taking up most of their workforce. Vietnam is also considered the Unified Ground Command's ideal training grounds for simulating rural combat operations, camouflaging practices and self-defense against wild beasts.

Japan- For quite a while, Japan’s been one to astonish technologically. Around the world and beyond the nation has amazed and always seemed several steps ahead, an inspiring, and sometimes foreboding window into the future that awaits Humanity. Today, the wingspan of the nation’s tech, arts, language, cuisine and social customs is greater than ever. Millions of communities across hundreds of Human worlds are influenced largely by Japanese culture, in everything from architectural styles to the culinary options available near home and the manners taught to children. Thanks in large part to the Historical Renaissance and Revival period, Japanese idols have become far more noticeable, even to non-Japanophiles, as the Samurai is now as common in imagery of nobility as the Knight, and shoji dividers are commonplace in many modern buildings. The country has the highest per-capita consumption of cybernetics of any nation on Earth, even dwarfing that of some Inner Colonies, and is at the forefront of research and design. Japan is also highly urbanised, and home to many corporations, where Zaibatsus cluster. During the Interplanetary War, many refugees fleeing conflict in the West fled to Asia, Japan in particular, and when they went back home, they brought Japanese culture with them, leading to an expansion in the adoption of Japanese business practices, fashion trends and culinary tastes across the Solar System, one which has had a domineering effect on many in Human society, to the point where for a time, Japan was considered the biggest originator of cultural imperialism since the USA in the 20th and 21st Centuries. Due to the country’s interest in technological advancement and all too often, its disappointment and frustration with UEG laws that ban more controversial and “extreme” research particularly in the realm of genetic editing and engineering, it’s probably no surprise that during the Domus Diaspora, most of the Corps and private parties that banded together to leave and excommunicate the rest of Humanity behind and seek a new, unrestricted transhumanist future out 1500 light years away in the form of what would later become the New Orion Republic were Japanese-owned, such as the titanic Gonzashin and Onkonawa corporations, who almost completely left recognised Human space. Perhaps shamefully, Japan has also become known as an often-used headquarters for numerous intelligence organisations, particularly the Office of Naval Intelligence, which was formed by Japanese UNSC Admiral Chijimatsu Sadanobu had based its Earth headquarters in Tokyo. Whilst ONI has been officially disbanded, the reputation its massive, foreboding HQ in the city accrued as a temple of darkness and sin committed in the name of obscuring people from the truth has left a sour taste in the mouths of many, and some people fear that ONI still retains a powerful, if silent presence in Japan's most populous cities, eagerly awaiting its chance to strike and regain total control over Human society- manipulating one of its most expansive and infectious cultures to do help keep themselves there.

United Republic of Korea-

Liberia- Considered the "African Lone Star", a Pseudo-American nation of West Africa and one of the nations where products of the company Statesman Arms, which primarily produces wild-west themed weapons and gear, are most frequently exported. Half of their cities are full of ethnic enclaves called Tejanillas (meaing "little Texas" in Spanish) or Texastowns and some individuals may even speak with a Southern North American accent. Liberia is also a popular region for Cowboy Action Shooting. Liberia is chosen by the UNSC Army as a location of simulating sandy urban combat operations and as a testing site for explosive weaponry, mainly to avoid social and political hazards of New Mombasa.

Unified German Republic-

Commonwealth of Australia- When wealthy Australian investor Andrew Portborne set himself the task of ending the British Commonwealth, nobody really thought he’d do it.

Greater Czechoslovakian Authority-

Brazil- Whilst it hasn’t happened yet and probably won’t for a long time, Brazil will probably be the first country on Earth to elect an alien as its leader. When the Human-Covenant War ended, Brazil, particularly Rio de Janeiro, became the Earth’s number one hotbed for alien immigrants and asylum seekers, as the city was happy to take them in.

United Kingdom-

Hoplocratic Republic of Nigeria- Nigeria has most recently gained a reputation as a strong, no-nonsense nation, where many undergo rudimentary military training at various boot camps at a young age out of a sense of civil duty. Nigeria is Africa's most powerful militia nation, rivaling that of even the URNA and the founding region of Weapon System Technologies. Home to the ODST-knockoff group of the UNSC Marine Corps African Corps (MCAC) known as the "Green White and Green" (GWAG), some of the Earth's most powerful Youth Militia reside in Nigeria which made them a force to be reckoned with on the Earth when the remnants of the Covenant led by the High Prophet of Reliance attacked the entirety of Africa, a type of nation that serves as a fundamental danger zone to many of the henchmen of invading armies who would rather avoid it. Many of the local civilian populations' fighting skills were dramatically honed with the help of the UNSC Army's local Nigerian brigades. Fashion is by far Nigeria’s most lucrative export, its textiles industry being renowned all across the Unified Earth Colonies. Whilst the term “Hoplocratic” means rule by armed individuals, Nigeria is not, contrary to popular belief, under a military junta. At least, not anymore. Back in 2099, a Nigerian political movement under the name of VACE (Veterans Against Continued Extortion), formed by a group of Nigerian army veterans who had served against the Boko Haram insurgency and the Greater Niger Delta War in the 2040s, who were angered that their military benefits were continually being postponed and that those who received them often had their cheques bounce. Blaming it all on the corruption of the current President, Ololade Tokunbo, VACE quickly drew supporters from all across Nigeria to its side to protest all sorts of social issues affecting the country, mostly surrounding the corruption of government officials, brutality of the police and a recent poor handling of the oil industry. With serving military and police personnel throwing down their flags and joining VACE in solidarity, the group swiftly began taking control of numerous parts of the country and clashed with the loyalist forces in Lagos in September 2099. By the 29th, VACE had deposed Tokunbo and set up a military government, however in contrast to former juntas that had existed in the country, VACE swiftly began democratic elections after revising the constitution, declaring that in order to become a high-level government official and eligible for Presidency, one would have to serve at least 3 years in the military in an active service or reserve capacity. In addition, significant benefits would be given to citizens who completed basic training in the armed forces. The idea was to create a society where Nigeria’s intellectual workforce had learned the meaning of duty, honour and respect, no matter if one was rich or poor, and would thus mean the elimination of ego and hopefully a decreased rate of corruption, and by extension an expansion of social works. Though it got off to a rocky start, by the Interplanetary War Nigeria’s was remarked as one of the most disciplined armies in the UN and it’s troops often took leadership and/or trainer roles when cooperating with the forces of other nations and when the UNSC was formed.

North Atlantic Protectorate-

Coalition of Antarctica- Antarctica is a rare gem among Earth’s nations, and is currently the youngest place on Earth to have established a central government. After the Interplanetary War, the Antarctic Treaty collapsed as the use of the land there by UN forces to train Earthborn soldiers for war on Europa, Mars and the Moon meant the terms of the Treaty were violated. Coupled with the threat of global warming and numerous corporations expressing interest in setting up facilities there, researchers in Antarctica and the native communities surrounding the continent banded together to form their own government. Whilst initially a disparate and struggling technocracy, a wealth of natural resources hidden under the ice spurred the continent’s rapid economic development, and the South Pole became a hotbed for numerous Inuit communities, who were forced to immigrate as a result of climate change negatively affecting Canada, Greenland, Alaska and the Arctic, though most of the Inuit would remain in these places, or move back after the reestabishment of Earth’s environment. Today, Antarctica is a thriving social democracy, though due to the nature of its foundation and the highly specialised way of living people must adopt there, it does still have very technocratic tendencies as scientific experts rather than typical politicians or normal citizens are generally more successful in elections. Antarcticans enjoy the lowest crime rate on Earth, with an astonishing murder rate of only 1 in 70,000.

Arctic Union-

Luna Confederated States- The Luna Confederated States or LCS is a governing body on Earth’s moon, Luna. It’s capital, Riccioli is located in Mare Nubium and it’s largest city; Crisium City in the state of Naniwa. Home to a group of Humans inhabiting Luna called “Lunarians”, Lunarian humans have distinct physical features and come from ethnic groups designated as “Lunaic ethnic groups” (pron: “loo-nay-yick) or sometimes, “Sienna’s ethnicity”. Formed in the year 2200 by the Rainforest Wars mediator named Kyle Cheem, the LCS makes up nearly 60% of Luan’s entire population including Mare Nubium, relying on tunnels and surface tubes to accommodate Human life. The LCS was Humanity’s largest supplier of bio weapons and “bio munitions” in case of more modular weapon systems such  as shotguns and grenade launchers, with 70000 units of VX7 Nerve Gas exported each year and were known to develop their own force application vehicles armed with turrets capable of launching biomunitions as well as their signature “VX7 Biocharges”. Just like many English-speaking Human colonies, the LCS has its own version of English complete with different proper terms and spellings of corresponding English words called “Luna English”. The LCS has its own military branch but is now categorised as a “satellite defense force” or “selenean Defense force” in Luna English) after being absorbed into the UNSC. Unlike the UNSC, the LCS Army uses its own assets, even modified variants of pre-existing UNSC ones. They are sometimes called the “bayonet boys”, as they still have routine training on bayonets mounted on small arms.

(Here you have it ladies and gentlemen, the first in a new series of posts about 26th Century Human Society, this one being about politics...otherwise known as the beast. Now I'm sure you're thinking of a few things like why some of these entries seem incomplete or completely empty, and that's because they are. As I've said before these "codexes" as I like to call them now are going to be a thing I add to through updates as and when I come up with ideas. I've left the ones that are blank because I want you to know that I'm thinking of them, just can't think of what they should have yet. It's gonna be the same going forward with alot of these codex posts, but I do want to say that I will make sure that more often than not, the entries will be full, so you're not just getting ideas that are blank and useless. Another reason why I left them is in case anyone would come up with their own ideas that I could mull over and see if I could adapt, should said people be okay with it.)

(Also, why the not-so-serious and sassy attitude towards many of these entries even though they're about real countries? Well, I'm gonna be real, alot of this is written from my own political perspective, which I don't really like to identify as being any one thing cause, like those radical centrists I mention, I don't like being on a "team" cause it limits me to what other people think, so take that and any other political commentary I give on my page, to be that, but you can probably guess I'm pretty left-leaning. It might be a little distasteful to do it so obviously but this is just how I roll, and if I happen to offend anyone on any side then I'm sorry, but this is just how it goes. Things like the Demopublican/Republicrat party for example, are things I'm sure will happen one day if I'm honest. Don't know if anyone else has ever thought of it but I totally see the Democrats and Republicans realising they're basically the same and joining together, that is if any other parties in the US gain prominence. Maybe it won't literally happen but I don't doubt it happening in some analogous way.)

(Furthermore I'd like to say that the reason why I decided to talk about Earth's nations and not individual colonies is because...well I wanted to see what it would be like to fool around with all these countries and see what they might be like 500 years in the future, even if some (like how I've clearly shown some favour to South Africa since I was born there) are likely exaggerations. If I did all the colonies, well, I'd never stop cause there's too many to write about. Okay, anyway, I need to stop making these rants so long. The next of these to come up will be about 26th Century Human Society's economy, then technology, culture and so on. Not sure when I'll post them but we'll see.)

(UPDATE Like a day later: added lore on Vietnam and Nigeria and added Liberia and the Luna Confederated States with ideas largely from www.deviantart.com/mickeeyoofe… )
