Description
This is like a little pre-auction thing regarding Assassins Kiss (AK) and Bedside Manner (Manny) to describe how they are, personality wise. Manny isnt a dimwit but he is DEF much nicer in his temper than AK. Manny is for example not all fine and dandy but again, he is an ANGEL compared to the devils own!. AK will NOT settle down completely, he will ALWAYS have a mean temper and the lucky one to get him must be aware of this! The slightly yellow teeth dug into the wooden stall door, not far from where he was leaning. Eye whites gleaming, the stallion looked at him for a short second before he retreated back to the other darker side of the stall, ears pinned. Then he stood there, glaring at the man, like everything was his fault. The dark bay, almost black, horse usually looked friendly or friendly enough - or that was until you came close, too close. Sometimes he didn’t even flatten his ears, never gave a warning, before he charged.
Craig wasn’t scared of him, not one bit. He knew that despite what ever the horse did, it wouldn’t hurt him, not on purpose. Sometimes it happened of course, that the horse got a grip on his shoulder, or arm instead of fabric or wood, but the times when that happened the horse seemed surprised that the man didn’t strike him, he let go almost right away. Other times, he seemed to be considering the idea to let his teeth dig deeper, into the flesh, to get even for all those other times the humans had hurt him. That he could get even, even if the person in front of him was innocent. You could see it all, reflecting in those angry yet soulful brown eyes, see it in the light trembles in the large body yet…the horse didn’t.
AK wasn’t like Manny. That was a horse that was loved by most. The grey stallion was like the kind of guy in school that everybody liked. The sort of type that went along with everybody, and that got good grades in all subjects; that was liked by the teachers. He never smoked behind the school building, and got caught or “accidently” set fire to the headmaster’s gazebo. Manny was the type of friend that you sort of used because his parents had a summerhouse at the sea, a friend whose parents stuck together, whose dad didn’t leave and let you have the place for yourself for a week and even got you permission to “taste” some of the contents in the booze cabinet. Craig tightened his fists.
Nobody really understood AK except him. Most took one look at the stallion and judged what they saw in that lone moment. Most of those moments showed an angry, insecure and beaten horse. They never saw those short glimpses of a horse that deep down wanted to trust humans, that wanted that scratch behind the ears, or just stand beside you as a friend. Craig knew that the horse wanted all that, but he was too angry, too hurt, too much of almost everything to dare to trust.
As the man went inside the stall the horse pinned his ears even tighter to his skull, and if it was possible he would have snarled. AK’s grooms always went in two and two and armed with a pitchfork like the horse would have been an ogre. A backhoof slammed against the boards and left yet another mark among thousand others, but the man didn’t flinch. It was just a charade, a hoax. If you played an act, if you looked to be ‘all that’, then people thought you where that way. Then they saw you differently. AK just wanted respect; that was all.
Manny…to be honest that horse was happy with mostly anything you put in front of him. Kind but not always bright at all times. AK was different from the grey, he had his own thoughts about things and knew what he wanted. Manny had a good upbringing and didn’t know anything but kindness. The dark bay had a temper already as a youngster and threw tantrums that scared people. Then when they started beating him to make him do what they wanted, his temper only got worse since the horse was used to get his way. Finally they had beaten him enough to make him at least at the surface bend at their will.
His hand went up to dry off that stupid tear. He was a jockey for Gods sake, not a silly female groom that thought all horses were her babies. He should be used to that those that was special left him. They all left. Horses were no exception. AKs hide trembled slightly at first as he petted the dark shoulder. Then, like when you let the air out of a balloon, the horse let out a big sigh. Craig scratched the crest of the horses wither.
“You are leaving soon boy…they have decided you have run enough. It wont be you and me anymore…no more scaring the crap out of the other jocks or the kids…or their hot mamas…”
The man smirked sadly.
“…there will be other grooms for you to scare tho old chap…but…don’t over do it now…its just as easy to send a good horse to slaughter as it is to a send a bad horse…however a good horse get more chances than a bad one…so…please…do your best…behave…for my sake ok? They…they just don’t know you like I do…”
Slowly, he wrapped his arms around the stallion’s neck. The stallion lowered his neck just as slowly and gave the man who took his time to look deeper, at the horse that he really was underneath the mask. With another sigh he gave the man that dared to enter the dragon’s lair a horsey hug back. Their last.
