Description
This set was brought to my attention as another old item to possibly re-texture. I don't know yet if I will be allowed to do anything with it or not, but I wanted to play with it a little and see what the possibilities were. Some of the original maps are still in use here with the Iray Uber shader base and my own settings. Some of the original maps are unusable for this purpose. I used some of my shaders from the DP1 set and some other random iray shaders.
This is a quick test render, no postwork. So far I think this set has a lot of potential.

This is a droid bar?
It would be funny if the bartender made Luke wait outside for a change.

You are SO my hero. There was a thread on the forums at DAZ that was talking about this set.

I have limited talent or experience with texturing but anything I can do to help I am willing to do. I love that bar set.

The biggest problem with that set working in DAZ is the animated textures. A lot of people don't understand what they are or how to deal with them. After playing with the set for a little while I don't fully understand why they were made that way as each gif file only seems to be a single frame. I am still checking into that part of it though.
My biggest hold back right now if finding out if I am actually allowed to make a texture set for it or if I will have to stick to shaders and make a tutorial for everyone.

I think you are an honest to god angel. I hope you are able to do the texture set. Your talent should be rewarded. I'd support you financially with a donation if you were limited to just a tutorial.
My curiosity is growing for learning the skills you have. I'm limited on time right now. And faith in myself is limited as well. LOL

Awwww Thank you
I would love to be able to do a texture set for it. It is an awesome set and it is a shame that more people can't use it. I just sent a support ticket to DAZ to see if i can get some answers sense the original creator has not responded to my email. Hopefully they will be able to tell me something in the next few days.
I love doing textures! It is like an extension of all my other art forms. So I get to bring all my other skills into play when I am working on a new set. And breathing new life into old things has always been my greatest love! The older creators put a lot of work into what they made and their stuff was great for the time it was done in, and it saddens me that when things change and newer better ways of doing things come along, their wonderful creations are forgotten or unusable. I guess, for me, creating new materials for these old assets is a way of reminding people how great those artists works were and giving their creations a chance to shine again.
I am more than glad to share what I can of my skills with you. If you want to learn it, the only real way to learn is to start experimenting. I started by just changing things up for my own artwork, one off textures that i deleted as soon as I was finished with them. LOL

If they give you the OK for the bar, maybe you would be interested in doing the gaming pack too .. it's a group of props that can be used with the bar to expand the setting. www.daz3d.com/dystopia-gaming-…
The textures work fine as is, it's not struggling from the same issues as the bar.
Do you have tutorials that you recommend for getting familiar with texturing in DAZ Studio?

Wow, I had never seen those, it would definitely be a must do if I done the bar!
I don't really know of any tutorials for texturing in DAZ Studio. I would recommend starting with reading through the User guide on surfaces
docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public…
I would also recommend using GIMP and grabbing some plug-ins for it to help with creating things like normal and bump maps.
I am glad to answer questions and help you as much as I can. Maybe pick a simple prop (one that we both have) that you would like to change the look of and send me a note. we will see if I can walk you through changing it up a bit. Fair warning, i have only been at this for a year and my library is limited.

Thank you!
I've been collecting content for a decade. I have tons of stuff for Poser that do not play nice with DAZ Studio. I'll poke around and find something then send you a private message with the product I'd like to try. I'll send a couple so you can see if you own any of them. If not, you tell me something you like and I'll see if I have it.
I've heard of GIMP but never investigated it. I have used Photoshop for years. I'll look into GIMP as well as looking at the User guide.

You're very welcome
Awesome, hopefully we will find something cool to start you out with.
If you have been using Photoshop for a long time you will probably end up using it a lot for work on textures. I don't use it much because I am trying to find alternate programs that will eventually get me away from the ridiculous subscription fee for Photoshop. GIMP is free and most of the plug-ins are free, and it can use some Photoshop brushes.

Yea, I am thinking I may just have to do a tutorial and a shader set that works on any surface. The shaders are worth my time, and for anyone who has this set the tutorial will help them make it look good in daz.
