Description
Some doodled derp inspired by a conversation I had with ProgrammedPaints about GLaDOS and her missing Chell after kicking her out of Aperture in Portal 2.So...anyways, we had this hilarious notion of GLaDOS and Chell running at each other across the wheatfield and hugging tearfully like in those Hollywood dramas. I hit on the notion that using the robot would be hilarious, and then hit on the notion that she'd crawl across the ground like a strange caterpillar.
Well the mental image of her crawling out of the surface shed like a strange robotic eel or caterpillar stuck, so I drew it.
If you look really closely there's even a hidden fat joke. Oh wait, I've ruined the joke. Well, darn. Continuing on...
Anyways I'm not sure if I want to color this, as all the little frames here might lose some of their quality if I did. I may color this, I may not. But I figure I ought to at least submit this for Portal fans to enjoy.
Also, apologies for a somewhat out-of-character GLaDOS. The way I see it, if she's desperate enough to crawl off to go find Chell, she's missing her something fierce and really wouldn't be that rational. Or passive-aggressive. Or herself, even. XD
This is just a bit of derpiness I had to draw, really. And I haven't drawn her original robot very often, so I might as well throw that in too. Not that I like my humanization any less, it's just I should learn to draw her real form, no?
GLaDOS and the Aperture shed are copyright Valve, of course.

I wasn't aiming for it to be sad, (more humorous) but it can certainly be taken that way given GLaDOS' desperation to talk to Chell. Thank you.

Was that an "Oh sweet jesus this is hilarious" or was that an "Oh sweet jesus this is sad" ? I'm just curious, cause I'm gonna feel awkward saying "thank you" either way. >_>;

Haha, thank you.
And yes, you caught the fat joke! I just mostly did that because the back end of her chassis couldn't possibly fit through that door. Then, the more I looked at it, the more I realized it's a fat joke.
Hahaha. Besides it was just plain funny.

Work is busy something fierce, but I got some days off coming up soon. I may or may not do something before then, but probably might take a stab at it during my time off. My real problem is figuring out where to take the story. (I have some ideas, don't worry about that.)

Okay I'm sort of a shipper, but I think I'd probably go for a more friends angle for this, and let the true ChellDOS fans take that whichever way they want.
But man, that's a funny image just for the ChellDOS aspect. XD Thanks. ^^

WheatDOS, huh? I have a little trouble trying to make sense of how that pair would work - and to be honest, I haven't seen a good explanation why. You think you could help me with that? (Not being sarcastic here, just curious. I've seen maybe one or two really good passes at WheatDOS, but most of the others are pretty derpy.)

This is the best/funniest thing I've seen... probably for the past couple months.
What's strange is that, for shippers, this scenario isn't entirely inconceivable. Since Portal 2 left very little shipping elbow-room, the shipping mind can get desperate, I've found..

DeepChrome In reply to lagsy [2011-10-05 06:38:11 +0000 UTC]
Heh. Awesome, thank you.
Eh I'm open to ships and at the same time, feel like Portal 2's story could also have closed the door on it. Frankly I think Valve could get away with not making any more additions to the Portal story, and yet at the same time, they could get away with a Portal 3.
That's genius writing, to tie off most of the loose ends, and yet make you feel like the story could go on. Damn, I hope I"m that good someday. o_o
Canonically I see those two as potentially best friends.
Shipping is left to personal speculation. There's just enough in the existing canon to support a few theories, and blow them apart at the same time.
Arg. I'm not making any sense, not even to myself. Best to shut up now....
Nice avatar, by the way - what's it say though? The text fades out pretty fast.

Valve certainly knows how to leave the door half-open to any sequel they feel like
But in the case of Portal 2, it can become heart-breakingly difficult for shippers to fully enjoy Portal 2, knowing that GLaDOS and Chell's interaction was made up so well during the game, but cut to such a definite and easily depressing end ('closing the door on it' is literal xD)
Of course, not everyone's a shipper. HOW ENVIOUS I AM.

Yah, I noticed that.
I think quite a few people (myself included) were wishing GLaDOS would realize she needed Chell and would try to find her again.
Honestly. Call someone a friend, and then chuck them out the door? That's nice on the surface to free her from her misery, but...wow, save the friend bit. It's pretty mean when you realize that Chell's going to have to find her own way in the world. (Ever seen that Exile Vilify fanvid by the one guy who did that awesome Want You Gone vid - *shudders* It's a pretty likely scenario for poor Chell out there.)
But here's the thing - leaving things that half-open keeps the shippers from having that "A million voices cried out and were suddenly silenced" episode, which would be pretty horrific. Sure, it does make 'em impossible. I personally think canonically at the most, those two are just friends. (I don't mind shipping them to see where my mind takes things, though. Aheh. ) And right now, broken-up friends at that. You never quite know what goes through GLaDOS' mechanical passive-aggressive head. Which is why I like her. Heh.
Ahahahaha, at the avatar text. Somehow, with that heart, it's just that much awesomer. Hahaha.

They're a vertical kilometer apart, for very few, tiny reasons that the brain nags about because you're always telling yourself it could've been avoidable. GLaDOS is going to live alone forever and always have this to remember, and probably regret, just like we don't have a sequel to quell our instinct to ship.
The silly business with 'Caroline=Chell's mum' doesn't help us get popular approval either.. I dunno, I suppose these complaints are common and bland at this point..
Nice to see someone else who doesn't believe they're simply mortal enemies, in any case ^^

DeepChrome In reply to lagsy [2011-10-05 07:54:07 +0000 UTC]
Hah. Agreed there as far as lonely!GLaDOS in canon, anyways.
Oh, I can't stand that there's always someone who has to jump in on a GLaDOSxChell piece going "But GLaDOS is her mother, cause of Caroline."
Excuse me while I vent a little exasperation at said commenters:
Guys, Valve left that as open as a wide-open barn door. We don't even have enough information to make an assumption like that, nevermind that the translation for Cara Mia just fans those flames.
Besides which, the artists just wanted comments on their work, not a pointlessly irrelevant remark about your own headcanon. Sorry, that's just bugged me for a while lately.
END RANT. If you picked up any sarcasm and any other stuff, please do not adjust your monitor. That was entirely intentional. I think. >_>
Yah, I don't think they're mortal enemies at any rate. It's just the way Valve left things, there's not much chance for them to get back together unless something horribly bad happens and most of us at this point wouldn't wish bad on Chell or GLaDOS...however psychotic she is. The potato was enough...
I would be fine calling them semi-friends, for the canon.
In my headcanon, they're basically potentially good friends if they ever had to team up again.
Shipper!headcanon in my brain says the potato made her fall for Chell, but she's so messed up mentally even if she had feelings for somebody, by the time she figured out she even had any, the bovine by-products are well past the fan. I think by the time she'd figured any feelings out, she would've just given Chell the boot just so she doesn't have to deal with the guilt of testing her. It basically just would end the same way as canon...
Really - ChellxGLaDOS may be our guilty pleasure, but it's a bit hard to make that work, even with canon leaving things open enough for interpretation. What she needs first before any shipping is reality smacking her in the casings a couple times. Hard. To the loud ringing of a lemon-shaped alarm clock. That explodes.
But hey, a girl can dream her shipping dream. Heh.
Personally, I think I'd rather Chell moved on and GLaDOS got a new protagonist to hassle. How about someone who talks back?

lagsy In reply to DeepChrome [2011-10-05 08:16:36 +0000 UTC]
Chronology makes Caroline being Chell's mother impossible. She'd have been 60+ years old and inside a computer at the time Chell was born. So that's completely crossed out in my book.
Personally, I think Cara Mia Addio! canonizes CheDOS to some degree. Completely platonic friends don't usually call eachother 'my darling beauty'. GLaDOS obviously developed very strong sentiments <3
And yes, it's very unfortunate that P2 made shipping such a frigging grindstone. And Half-Life going on in the background, and P2's ambiguous timeline spot makes Chell's situation hard to think about ;__;
Honestly, I wouldn't prefer a new protag, and Valve would probably never do it, especially not a talking one. Portal has always been personal between the two of them. I actually feel detached during the co-op campaign, since GLaDdy isn't interacting with the player characters in any meaningful way. I think that would repeat itself.

DeepChrome In reply to lagsy [2011-10-05 23:12:43 +0000 UTC]
Ahahaha, I love it. (I am so not a Caroline = Chell's mom fan. It messes up too much stuff in my head to think about it. x___x) I gave up on the whole mother/daughter dynamic between those two ages ago.
Hmm, I do also think the story with Chell could continue, but I'm just not sure how, as Chell got sent topside pretty permanently. And while I have some ideas, not all of them work out that well. Heh.
I personally think it might make for more interesting character development for GLaDOS if ChellDOS actually had to be damn near infeasible. Add in Chell's emotional trauma from what must've been years of insults, GLaDOS' own self-denial, seriously. To force her to work that stuff out, and work through what she did to the girl...fascinating to me. (You're talking to someone who saw Vader's redemption at the end of Return of the Jedi and was probably fundamentally affected by it, fair warning there.)
And yes, I do think, to save Chell on the moon, GLaDOS had to have felt strongly about Chell. I'm pretty much a ChellDOS fan. WheatDOS...oh god, I've had the occasional friend with a brick for a head, I could not stand a complete moron, seriously. I...I cannot compute that ship. I just can't. I think somebody could probably use it to logic-bomb an AI in the future. XD It makes no frigging sense.
