Description My first piece with Apophysis 2.04 beta. It only took TWO HOURS to render at 3200 pixels across! I got a feeling this version will render even faster than before. Wow.

Anyways, this was done with a combination of noise variation, and mutations, and triangle tweaking. I must say, for noise and blur, you HAVE to use mutations as a starting point. Just an FYI. I'm going to have to try *dmschenk 's Rays of Light script on other fractals like this one. I imagine it would be...very interesting.

Intersetingly, I can see someone coming out with some very UF-looking stuff with those two variations, so I look forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with.

It does have a very Star Trek look to it. I'm not much of a Trekkie, but it definitely has that feel. It's beautiful.

Thanks. Glad you liked it...I wasn't going for Trek when I made it, but I can see where people would get that.

Looks like the Enterprise NCC-1701-L? Is my trekkieness showing?! Gorgeous work!

Interesting...I'm a Trekkie, and I failed to catch that.

But yes, you're right!

Nice and smooth 'whippy-thing' in space! How are you liking 2.04beta so far?

Liking.

I did this wicked sinusoidal/noise thing last night that I'm gonna put up in a few.

2.04's letting me do stuff I couldn't do with any other Apo version thus far.

Now if they would just get it to use layers like UF, and a Photoshop-style gradient-making plugin, I'd be in heaven. TOTAL heaven.

I'd never have guessed that this was an Apophysis creation. Beautiful flow of color and light.

Thank you. Yeah, there's some new variations, two of them I think are going to get people creating stuff that look like the weirdest UF/Apophysis hybrids ever. And you know me--a sucker for finding just the color gradient.

Tell me about it! I don't know how you get such perfect gradients. It must take forever.

Fiddling, fiddling, and more fiddling. Patience, a liking for color, and putzing, I guess. I try to get a gradient that brings out the best of a fractal in my eyes, while downplaying those parts I don't want to see. That's it, I guess. It's time consuming but works for me.

I get the fiddling/putzing thing. Fractal programs are a Tweaker's Dream. I don't know how many times my stomach has grumbled, I've looked at the clock and thought, "Damn. I missed breakfast and lunch. Again!"

I'm curious. Do you create gradients to try out on a fractal ... or do you tend more toward adjusting existing gradients? Also, do you have an intuitive feel for what colors will work best with a particular fractal?

I tend towards adjusting existing ones, or using the randomize button. I tend to go with an intuitive thing. Sometimes I hit on a fractal that just looks PERFECT in red--a color I tend to not use often.

I shy away from red/orange for the most part. 99% of my fractals end up blue/purple/black and it's ... boring.

*makes mental note to go crazy with hot colors*

I have fun with blue/purple/black, but every once in a while I get a hotcolored one.

Like the one I'm gonna post up in a few. Well...once I figure out a title and where to stick said title.
