"ENOUGH." Those words echo through the long hallway, discussion by the doors halting to a stop as the guards who had been tasked with overseeing the princess' visit carefully peer in. No one seems to want to recognize how sensitive she is, how words can hurt, how being compared to a version of your father who they call heartless can do so much to a young pony. It seemed to be the last straw.
"She sounds just like him, cruel."
That was all it took for the mare to snap, metal shoulder plates scraping in her sharp turn to the door, magic sparking across her horn in a broken distorted strike the grey. Usually she’d be short tempered against people who spoke of her like that and so they’d prepared themselves for harsh words- but then they heard the short sobs. One of the guards looked up to Penumbra to see tears running down her cheeks, fur stained as she bared her fangs to the stallions, mane turning a tad wispy as the purple magic began to strike the room in arrows of lightning; breaking the ground, the windows distorting to black glass or breaking on impact. The mural that hung over Queen Celestia’s and Princess Luna’s thrones warped into a weeping Queen Cadance and a broken heart. The soldiers waited in fear and awe as a flame of magic sparked to life under Penumbra’s eyes and her silver stone necklace began to carry it’s on magical spark.
“If you wish to compare me to the man you think I know, then fine. I will become him. For you.” She barked at them, a set of shadows traveled her armor from her necklace forming the shape of wings behind her with flourish.
Penumbra was done with it. If these ponies of Canterlot and the Crystal Empire saw her as a monster, she’d give them something to fear.
