Description
Robin WilliamsΒ
July 21, 1951 β August 11, 2014
We've lost some real heroes of the silver-screen recently. Robin Williams was a huge inspiration for me growing up. Such energy, diversity and passion. So tragic how it all ended, I was thinking about it a lot and really wanted to translate that into a piece.
Here, Williams appears as 'Parry' (from Terry Gilliams 'The Fisher King'), arguably one of his best roles, and a personal favourite of mine.

So much expression in his face alone. This is excellent.

Wonderful art and thank you for sharing this. I grew up watching Robin Williams' films and will miss him a lot. Also, despite the numerous tribute pieces I've seen made for him recently this is the first featuring him as Parry, and it's quite puzzling to me. The Fisher King must be one of my favorite movies of all times, deep and beautiful and surreal, and Williams was one of the main reasons why the movie was so powerful. Is it that unknown/underappreciated?

Thanks for your lovely comment! Yes it is a relatively lesser known film of his, but im sure now will get the glory it always deserved (like most of Terry Gilliams movies really!).

This is a beautiful and touching memorial for Mr. Williams.Β Thank you for sharing this with us.Β I may not have known Mr. Williams personally, but like so many other people he has been a mote of joy in my life for many, many years.Β The sad isn't going away from this loss any time soon, but it makes me glad to see such an outpouring of love and respect for a man who strove to make so many people happy.
The Fisher King is one of my favorite movies as well...Top Ten, actually. Parry was indeed one of Robin Williams' best roles.Β

It's a really nice illustration, a very touching tribute.Β
I do believe it's one of Robin Williams best role too, i love this movie, i love this character, and i love this actor.Β
Thank you for doing it .. as sad as i am about his death, i'm happy that he existed and did everything he did, and seeing people paying tribute to him, seeing the love, and how Robin Williams impacted their life, it make me feel happier.Β

I'm so glad you like it. It was difficult to do, but one of the pieces I am most proud of. While painting it I felt like I was having the conversation with Robin that I never got to have in this life.
When you are painting an image, it basically starts off as nothing, then a blurred image, and as it gets on it becomes clearer and clearer, like a camera lens focusing on something. While most of the painting is quite slap-dash, I focused more on his face. It was strange seeing his eyes become clearer and clearer, til it felt like we were staring at each other.Β
My art is almost entirely influenced by the things I have seen, heard and touched in my life - when someone as profound as Robin Williams, Philip Seymour Hoffman (etc) dies before their time, it hits me pretty hard. I heard Richard Attenborough has just died, and while obviously sad, he was 90 years old. I have great respect for his life and career also, but as it didn't really make a huge impact on my life I feel it would be a little exploitative for me to paint him.Β
Everyone deals with death a different way, but for me recently, with those I greatly admired, a tribute portrait seems the best method. It means the world to me that people seem to enjoy what I do. Thank you again very much - and peace be with you! x

This movie is now on my list...I didn't even know about it having been very very young when it came out, but this portrait is incredible! Amazing work! Thank you!

A very under-appreciated movie and, I agree with you, one of Robin's finest roles
Great job!

TFK is the best. As is most of Gilliams stuff. When I heard the new about RW and saw this image of Parry, I knew i had to paint it.

Thank you for this wonderful image. I agree, Parry was one of his best roles. Knowing what I've learned of him, now, I feel that this was a character played too close to how he actually was. Perhaps this was why he was best in this movie.
