Description
...The few remaining Dunedain were now only like stones in the river; soon to be engulfed by the raging flow. One by one they were beaten down to the bloody soil by the horde of orcs which now roamed the battlefield without mercy or restrain.
And Aldarian was there too. She was still alive as orcs, except the strongest and largest Uruks, had rather yielded before her eyes and the cold flames of Luinril, than stood against her. But not anymore. Not even the fear of Luinril could keep them at bay anymore as orcs could easily see that she was at the limit of her strenght, exhausted, struggling to stay on her feet and barely able to see a thing because of her wound. And she was alone.
Therefore a dozen of Uruks rushed now towards her with their raised lances in the intention to stroke her down. Aldarian swinged her sword but all she could see was vague shapes all around her and the swing was weak and inaccurate. Still it made few of the orcs to evade. But not all of them. Two rushed forward and stroke their lances towards her. No man made metal, not even Arnorian steel could repulse those thrusts. With a hideous cracking sound Aldarian's breastplate was pierced and lances sunk deep to the left side of her lower chest.
For a moment time seemed to be frozen. Then slowly, ever so slowly Aldarian fell to her knees. Luinril slipped from her grip and dropped to the ground. With slow, trembling moves she raised her left hand to the lances which had impaled her and looked the blood with staring, non-seeing eyes. Fear and pain was on her expression but more so an utter disbelief and shock.
"This... cannot... be!"
...
It has been quite long time since my last drawing. Here is my latest and you have to excuse me for it being Aldarian again. This time I wanted to try to draw that fateful moment when Aldarian is gravely wounded during a hopeless battle against Angmar.
During the drawing I did ponder would it be possible to be wounded so and still be "ignorant" about the pain. I mean that sure Aldarian feels the pain but for a moment she is more shocked about the realization than pain. Well, I have read that a shock can be so hard that it conceals the pain for a moment. Perhaps this was the case here too.
Aldarian and Last heiress of Cardolan are my creations.

If you think I've forgotten you, you're wrong.
The halo-like background is new, I haven't seen that in you elsewhere. It's a good way to emphasize the shock and fear in the image. As always, great detail on the mail and sticky strings of blood. I'm a little surprised that we don't see more of the actual wound given the elaborate storytelling along with the image, but I guess Aldarian's horrified expression was the point of it all, which you have managed just gallantly.
Well... That's what they say, and it's correct. If the inflicted injury happens fast enough the body goes into shock and pumps out loads of adrenalin so you don't feel any pain. On the other hand of the scale there is also the kind of intense pain that blocks out everything else in the world. It's funny how the body reacts sometimes.
*reading previous comments* There's no point in a good challenge if it always was easy, you know. You remember my Discworld-painting? Do you have any idea of how many times I wanted to hurl that thing out of the window before I was finished?

About drawing being easy. Yeah, I know that challenge is what usually makes us better. But it wouldn't be too bad if the drawing process would be sometimes more joy than pain. Lately, it has been more the latter.
"Halo" effect was last minute add. I thought that this would look better with some sort of background than pure white. At the same time it would work as an effect of shock, surprise and fear like you said.
I intentionally left the wound to be unseen and just hinted to it with the blood strings from Aldarian's fingers. At the very beginning I did consider for a moment to show the impaling. Most likely it would have been far more striking but this time I desided against it. Perhaps I will one day draw the moment when Dorlim finds Aldarian after the battle and then I can show bloody spears, cracked armors, impaled chests and a sea of blood.

Ah... Then we have a sea of blood and delicious gore to look forward to later on. I shall wait with patience.

Tried to get a lot of emotion and "battle-weariness". This was not an easy one though. It could be said that Aldarian was not the only one who shed blood with this one. Everything I did seemed to be so damn hard and difficult. Nothing came out with ease. So finally it was finished just because I "pushed it through". Not because it would have been a relaxing and joyfull experience. Pffft... well, drawing is sometimes like that.
