Description Speedpaint study for speedpaintstudies.deviantart.c…
2h. No tracing, no colour picking from original picture.

I'm going through art block. I had to force myself to paint it.
No flow, no timing, no pleasure and I'm just happy I made it anyway

This time I'd be more happy to here how you deal with an artblock than to get any critique. Exceptionally.

What don't you like in this one? (excepted that it was a pain to do I mean )
I like how smooth it looks. To be honnest I started this one and quickly gave up. I may give it another try though as I'm a bit stubborn and I wasn't in the best condition to paint.
About artblock, well, it happens to me from time to time too. I may be able to help you if you elaborate what specific point(s?) frustate you at the moment.

Thank you for your reply yinetyang.
Well it's just this horrible feeling that I can't paint anything. Every brush stroke looks bad and I can't decide what to do next. It's really hard to tell if you don't feel it... When it's gone it's like "phew! nothing big!" but when it comes I'm just unable to paint. Brrr.
About this study - well, it's unfinished. I think it would take twice as much time as I used. And that tells how slow, distracted and doubtful I was.
Definitely try again. I wanted to give up a hundred times during this one but I didn't till 2 hours past and just uploaded the result.

You're welcome.
Just a personal opinion, but when I block on painting, I draw/doodle/sketch with a simple pencil. It's very satisfying because you can draw nice stuffs without the pressure of handling colors (my personal nemesis) and values at the same time. And if you get allergic to paper and pencil I can advise you a great and free little software which is just magical for sketching on computer with the very same subtlety of a pencil. It's here: www.madewithmischief.com/
I think I'll give it a new try soon.

I use an old version of Photoshop since I'm used to it but it doesn't really matter nowdays. There are plenty good drawing/painting programms.
What do you mean by clean lines? It's propably just the matter of training. I struggle with my lines since I started to paint and I still barely see any improvement
