AMG you are amazing! I'm part of a cosplay group and i'm in charge of the props... I thought i was going to have to be forced to make dave's gigantic sword! This seems sooooo much easier!

Where did you find your records? I found some that were coloured and that's fine I can paint it white, but they were too much in one package (like 25) and they were too small!

You think you can send me a link or suggestion?

Well, I have a record store right off campus!! So I just popped in and bought the two cheapest ones for like a dollar each!! I'm sure, wherever you are, there is a high possibility that there is a record store around you! It's just a matter of popping it into google maps!

Sorry! Wish I was more help!

Does cardboard work?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

deerlette In reply to Limeris [2013-08-08 00:23:56 +0000 UTC]

im sure it /would/ work...

however you should probably be careful when you pick out your cardboard cause sometimes cardboard tends to have this liney texture that is really awkward looking on finished props :0a

deerlette In reply to shibatooth [2013-04-06 05:05:17 +0000 UTC]

it's really up to you! I did about 1.5 inches in between each notch but if you just eyeball it you should be fine!!!

amoz2012 [2013-03-22 00:20:21 +0000 UTC]

Alright, I'm working on these right now for a con. I've heard rumors that spray paint dissolves the foam in foamboard. How accurate is that? Like, should I spend the money on mod podge to be safe?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

deerlette In reply to amoz2012 [2013-03-22 03:36:25 +0000 UTC]

YOU KNOW.... I HEARD THAT RUMOR TOO.... AND HONESTLY... . MINE TuRNED OUT FINE???? I have no idea, my friend. I think if you wanna stay on the safe side the second best option is to buy acrylic paint? Just some cheapy red craft stuff and paint it on. But I used spray paint on mine and they were definitely foam core so....

THE CHOICE IS YOURS. Luckily most spray paint isn't TERRIBLY EXPENSIVE nor is foam core soooo....??? It's up to you buddy D:

Suika-Eman [2013-03-07 01:18:42 +0000 UTC]

also, one quick question. do you remember what size those foamboards were? its cool if u forgot,

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

deerlette In reply to Suika-Eman [2013-03-07 07:55:04 +0000 UTC]

Oh golly :0 prolly 10x24 if i had to make an educated guess just cause that's a standard size for larger matte boards and stuff

Really any size will do and any number of foamboards will do so long as you can get the desired amount of gears and platforms onto it good luck

Stupid question maybe but would this also work with acrylic (plastic) ? Great tutorial anyways! This should help out a lot.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

deerlette In reply to XxParadoxHysteriaxX [2012-12-31 04:34:27 +0000 UTC]

Acrylic paint should be fine. The only reason I suggest spray paint is because u get a much more even coat/it's faster/ less of a hassle/ and of course u don't have those brush strokes all over the gears.

uvu
but yes any ole paint is just fine
