Had a lot of fun doing this one. Feathers are much easier for me to paint than scales for some reason. Looked at a variety of different birds of prey for the colors and feather references, but I think my fav reference was the eye, which i got from a roadrunner. Growing up there were tons of roadrunners around and I had no idea how cool their eyes were!Medium: Photoshop

The plumage reminds me of a Harpy Eagle we used to have at my local zoo. Beautiful picture.

I really like this deviation. It reminds me of the Utahraptor in Willoughby's Three Dromaeosaur RPR Doodles , but more photorealistic.

Yes but you see, They used amphibian DNA to fill in the gaps, and that mutated some of the genetics and that is why they aren't completely accurateΒ Β Β

Well...ok multiple things hinge on this one question. On one hand, yeah it would've been cool to see accurate dinosaur depictions in JW. But the problem with that is A) They do have an image to uphold. They can't just suddenly be accurate. These are iconic characters of a franchise. And then they wouldn't be monsters anymore they would have been animals. Having them not be accurate detaches them from the "living" animal bit and turns them into dangerous scientific frankensteins.

I realize this comment is two years old, but couldn't agree more. Recently listening to a video on what paleontologists theorize the T. Rex sounded like. Apparently, it's thought that they used closed mouth vocalizations to communicate over it's large territory. It's like a low rumble that you can feel more than you can hear. It's haunting.

What a remarkable spin on one of the best dinosaurs out there. I would have thought that it was a harpy eagle instead.

A real stunner, surprised I have not found this one yet. The scientific accuracy is spot on, with a properly feathered head, which is rare even in the better drawings. Art wise it is obviously sublime, probably one of the best ive seen.
