Description A new personnal artwork, I studied owl lastly, I really like those birds. I also could record the process with Kazam on Kubuntu 12.04. As usual with Linux , video editing and converting were a pain, and things who worked yesterday doesn't work today. Bah ... I start to get used too Here is the link :

Please forgive my presumption, but was so taken with this illustration I used it unchanged and appropriately credited in a little feebie D&D goof I wrote up - originally for my daughter, but then shared out.Β  It really needed a good illustration to drive home the point (random tables don't have the visual impact of an owl princess).Β

You're truely a master, how you started with values and shading, not to mention the complicated system/software u were using, you make it seem simple!

very inspirational indeed I surely could learn a lot from this video. Thank you so much for sharing it.

Thanks !
I hope I'll find soon the time to make a new Youtube video.
The workflow I used in this one is a bit dated ; now I use Krita only.
Version 2.8 is really cool.

It was very interesting to see the work process of this in the video (Krita is, as you know, not really something I use much yet). I like the colours and the realistic-looking owl!

Your technique is as always very good. If I may offer some critique is has to do with the emotional impact. To be honest I more get the wibe of a very good speed paint rather than a finished artwork from this though. I think the lack of background could be a part of this. In a sense there is not much happening in the image - it's a girl and an owl looking off-screen. There is a hint of a branch, but apart from that we don't know much about this world. She looks kinda neutral and relaxed ... doing nothing.
Some scene-setting background or maybe some small insect flying up to communicate to her would immediately help the mind to race (is the insect a scout in an elven war, someone looking for help, a loyal servant to the girl on the owl? And so on). Adding some "action", no matter how little, would add a lot to this I think.
Just some thoughts in the interest of constructive feedback.

David,

I think you did a very good job with this painting and it was great to see you do another video tutorial. I think it is very good for artists see how others work. Though I would like to hear you do a voice over. I know you think that people will have a hard time with the accent, but I have heard you and find you easy to understand. Just food for thought.

Have a good one,
Steve
