does the "k" in mp5k mean like small or short?

Kurz - short. MP5K, G36K, and so on.

Think of 9mm Kurz, which is 9x17mm (.380 ACP) os opposed to 9x19mm.

Machine Pistol 9mm. That's imaginative.

The Russkie are trying to name a 5,45 assault rifle "A-545". Every flaggin' Russian rifle could be named like that!

no they couldnt. as the AKM isnt 5.45 mm

DeeVeeCee In reply to ComannderrX [2016-07-22 22:44:13 +0000 UTC]

The AKM isn't "every" rifle, and the 7,62 isn't as widely used nowadays. Think of AK-74, AN-94, AEK-971, AK-12, the list goes on.

The names are becoming less and less distinct nowadays. The RSASS, iirc, is "Remington Semi Automatic Sniper System". Where are the names like the "Ballista"?

Speaking of MP9, it is so generic that there are at least two guns with this designation.

there are TWO guns with the name MP9!? wheres the lawsuits on that!?

the AK-12 does still use 7.62mm

really? thats what RSASS stands for? lame

The Ruger MP9, google it.

The AK-12 name is a weird case. If we even don't mind that it doesn't have different designations for its calibers, we still sorta associate it with the 12 gauge. Like, you know, SPAS-12, USAS-12, Saiga-12, etc, etc. The shotgun variant seems to receive an AK-12/76 designation, though.

the probably call the ak-12 shotgun ak-12/76 to distinugsh it from the normal7.62/5.45m version

It is still a prototype, the latest one should probably be called "AK-15". Why not call it in a similar manner to the TAR-21 and SAR-21, as in "21st century", though?

wtf is a sar-21?

thats what the 21 stands 4?

as for why they dont call the AK-12 "AK-15" ,its because its no longer 2015

It's a Singaporean (spelling ok?) bullpup 5.56 assault rifle with a scope/handle similar to AUG, handguard sorta reminiscent of SA80/L85, and a (folding) charging handle under the carry handle like the FAMAS.

You know, TAR-21 pretty much means "Tavor Assault Rifle of 21st century", Tavor being the name of a mountain or something.

And as for AK-12... Well, I guess, the Russian army is going to stick to the 74M for a few decades anyway. Why replace something that WORKS, and when there's plenty of it?

ComannderrX In reply to DeeVeeCee [2016-07-23 00:59:14 +0000 UTC]

oh the Sar...i think that was in thr gamecube game geist

why replace the AK-47, and AK-74M WHEN there simple to fx and use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DeeVeeCee In reply to ComannderrX [2016-07-23 08:27:37 +0000 UTC]

AKM replaced the 47 because the latter was a piece of crap (seriously, it was heavier and less reliable). Then, the 7,62 ammo seemed heavy, so 5,45 was developed. As for why make the 74M... Well, there were separate models with and without scope mounts and/or folding stocks. Not to mention the fall of the Soviet Union, so this simplification of manufacturing is justified.
