Why would the Israelis switch from an AK-style gun to a bullpup? Were the TAR-21 and X95 better in performance than the Galil?

Bullpup guns have shorter overall length while having the same barrel length as classic-style rifles. That, and the TAR-21 magazine well is designed to accept all types of STANAG magazines, unlike anything derived from an AK.

ive heard that some TAR-21 variants are chambered in 5.45X39mm...yet still use a mag that looks like a 5.56 mag. is that true?

I've outlined an X95 reference that said 5.45x39 on the cover of the left ejection port. It does not reuse the AK-74 mags, but has its own, based on STANAG AR-15 mags design.

As far as I know, Ukrainian "Fort" bought the license and manufactures the TAR series, the Galil ACE, the Uzi Pro, and even the Negev. Funnily enough, getting good reference pics is easier if you know their Ukrainian designations. For instance, I got the Galil ACE refs from Fort's website.

oh ok. i masking because i saw this image:Β www.imfdb.org/wiki/File:IWI_X9…

which clearly said "5.45X39mm" on the side, right above where you would load the gun

That's the picture I was talking about. Its ejection port says 5.45, and there's no reason mistrust this.

Like the AUG, Tavor series can have its ejection port reversed for left-handed shooters.

i dont doubt the tavor (or X95, or MTAR, or whatever there calling it today) having an ability like that

i will probably sound like and idiot for saying this, but isnt chambering a NATO weapon (i think the X95 is a NATO weapon) in a soviet caliber some kind of odd?

If modularity is a violation of common sense, then I dunno.

Some former Soviet countries are part of NATO nowadays.

(the reverse, soviet weapons being chambered in 5.56, is also odd)

oh now what is that!? looks like a sig 556 being fed 7.62X39mm

i am aware of that, poland is apparently one of them

As well as all of them, I suppose.

do the guns that use 7.62X39mm mags like the 556R load the same way as an AK? (insert the front of the mag, then rock in the back part, if my sources are correct)

Depends entirely on the magazine design.

and probably atleast somewhat depends on the weapon itself
