Description
She's one of my very favorite actresses, and I don't know why I hadn't drawn her yet! Well, I found a gorgeous high resolution reference and decided to do this right and take my time. The hair was a pain and the background came out a little off, but besides that I think she came out very nicely. This is a 14x17 drawn with 2H-8B pencils. The reference isn't mine, and can be found here: www.wallpapers-photos.net/wp-c…

Well about the hair and background... There's a certain charm in not finishing/ being 100% accurate in every detail in the drawings you make. We also learned in school that some things should be left unfinished, to accent the centerpiece, main object of interest, which you have done quite perfectly in this drawing.
It's amazing! This time there's completely nothing I can add, with my pesky little criticizing eye. The drawing as a whole is in an equalibrium (we had a physics class last week about it, hence the name xD) The background is beautifully out of focus. This one is going to my favorites.
I have a question about how you make these drawings. When you start it, do you make the construction lines, with the points, checking them and making sure it's accurate, or just start from one point with some lines and immediately get the right proportion, then just shade it? I've seen some crazy pro videos, where they make the photo-realistic drawings. And they start with just a small outline, no construction..

Thank you so much!! I'm glad to hear this one holds up.
Well, have done a method where you measure everything out by hand to make sure you have the proportions right, and it works very nicely - but it takes forever! I've found I can skip the measuring step if I project the reference image onto my paper and mark key points (like the corners of the eyes, the jawline, ect). Then I draw in all the details, then I shade. Does that answer your question?

Yeah, using the traditional measuring method takes a lot of time. I think it is necessary to learn to use it, because then your eyes are used to measuring and comparing points when you draw, but I myself too use faster methods.
That answered my question perfectly :3
Sorry for the delay..

Haha, glad I could answer! It's always nice to hear that other artists use the same methods.

As others have noted, it's a great image - but the hair and in particular the eyes are stunning.
