Description Ever wonder what an animal that evolved wheels would look like? Well this is one possibility. It's about two meters tall and weighs approximately 160 KG on earth (it's native planet has about the same gravity). It has two squid-like eyes that can see full color except for orange and red. Each eye is divided in half and each one can act as two regular sets of stereoscopic eyes, it can even bend in the middle to focus on object that change distance. It's about as smart as your average dog with a brain the same size as a dog. It has these two very large coils on what are actually the sides of the body (not the front and back). These coils are packed tightly with muscles attatched to a spine made up of hundred of rectangular shaped vertabrae. These muscles tense up creating a spinning force that sends the Gyrogigus speeding left or right. The coilds don't completely unfurl, infact the muscles evolve and grow to be so tight that it's impossible for the gyrogigus to completely unfurl its wheels without causing injury to itself. This is probably the fastest land animal in the entire galaxy, it tenses up the coils repeatedly creating a wave of spinning momentum, the little spines on the outter most coils provide incredibly stable traction that can adapt to any surface texture, from mud to solid stone. It can probably achieve top speeds of up to 155 kilometers per hour. It's primarily herbavorial and has few natural preditors. It eats grasses, tubers, roots, nuts, fruits, small insects, occasionally fish and small reptiles. It has a very large dinner plate-sized beak under its head that can be used to chew up grass, or take a big chunk out of its as a last ditch effort. They live in herds ofcoarse in a matriachial caste system. The males usually live solitary lives while the female live together in large families and raise offspring cooperatively. They communicate by laying their wheels on the sides of the ground and sending low frequency cshock waves through the ground by vibrating their muscles in unison. The differentials of the two wheels together can create an very low frequency tone that can shatter a human's ear drums if directed through the air. They also have a simple bird whistle-like vocalization that is also used for communication. They are hunted primarily by wolf-like two headed three legged creatures called Chymeras. These Chymera are the second fastest animal in the galaxy and can sprint reaching speeds of up to 145 kilometers an hour but can only sustain that speed for ten seconds. The Chymera cannot cool itself as efficiently as the Gyrogigus and has evolved two sets of long spines on its back covered with a thin layer of skin which secrete sweat. It has a tail that outweighs the rest of its body and can be used as a rudder or a counter weight in order to make hair pin turns at high speeds. Since the Gyrogigus uses a wheel-based system of locomotion as opposed to a pedal system, it can move far more efficiently, at incredibly high speeds, and for extended periods of time. It can cruise comfortable at 100 kilometers an hour for an hour, outrunning all other animals on its planet and the entire galaxy. It is a candidate for becoming an intelligent sentient tool building, art creating, language using being.

yours is the best (and most plausible) wheeled animal I've yet seen.

I liek the concept, very unique body design, it reminds of a cuttlefish with those eyes.
Too bad animals with true wheels don't exist. There some animals than use wheel tranportations though by shaping themselves into wheels though.

Yes, there are desert tarantulas that move down sand dunes by doing cartwheels. There are also the famouse example of potato bugs rolling into balls, so on and so fourth. Since I created this, I've envisioned several other creatures that locomote with wheels that I'll put up soon.
