Description
So here it is- the add-on tutorial that goes with Colt-kun's tutorial .I might make another tutorial on turning/flips/barrel-rolls, but only if there's an audience for it.
(Just for the record, I've been doing the dolphin kick since I was about 8 yrs old, and have a lot of experience in swimming activities: 4 yrs of swim team, 4 years of lifeguarding (and still going!), one semester of water polo(and still going!), and 2 years of teaching swimming to 7th graders. I'm pretty darn good at what I do.)
If there are any questions, let me know!

Possibly... I do not own an underwater camera nor a camera person at the moment, but I'm working on getting them soon. At that point, there should be some more pics with me and my Sora in our outfits after our tails get repaired.

i just railised... one of the first strokes i learnt was dolphin kick O_O'
my friend and i cant be stuffed making tails of buying a monofin so we use dive rings over our legs to keep them together and normal flippers
suprisingly it works really well

Where do you get monofins? Do you have to but them online or do they sell them in leslie's pool supplies? I'm from Texas so idk if there's Leslie's' everywhere else. I've been using regular flippers for dolphin kicks and I find they work great for me,but recently they just broke on me and I've been looking everywhere to see If I can find flippers like them. Then I saw this and I was like,"wow! They make those?!?" and....yeah now I'm interested in them. They look like they take some getting used to though

Sora and I bought our monofins from Swim2000.com. So far, the monofins haven't broken yet, but mine is a little worn so far, just because I do use it to practice butterfly and not just for this costume.

Ok thank you I may be able to get some before I go up north to michigan. My dad said he went to academy yesterday and he saw a nice pair of flippers so we might check into them just to compare. Thanks again

Well, if cookies are involved, the I guess I kinda have to, huh? I'll see if I can get some decent stills from the video I got during my second photo/videoshoot. If not, you might have to wait until my Sora comes down with a waterproof digital camera, since I don't own one.

IT HAS A NAME!!!!!!!!!!
heh, I always just called it 'mermaid swimming'. I've never tried it with any sort of 'fin' before... New entry for my list of dream items.
Did you ever do a tutorial for 'flips, barrel rolls and turns'? I'm curious about those 'cause I've never managed anything more than a straight line.

I can, once I get a hold of another waterproof digital camera. I have some slightly older footage, and I'll see what I can do with that- but if it's not sufficient, I'm not going to use it. I guess I know what my next DA project is!

one question:
When I swim with my monofin, it gets looser.
Do you know what to do against that?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
deliriumdreamer3 In reply to Bulleteye [2009-05-03 17:12:12 +0000 UTC]
Sometimes it does that. My suggestion is to keep tightening the straps (if yours can do that) to the point where it's comfortable. You can tell it's too tight when the straps start to dig into the back of your feet. I know I can tell my fin is on correctly when the tips of my toes start to poke out of the feet part of it, and no matter how I twist and turn and kick, the fin doesn't move.
Other than that, how is your monofin experience coming along?

Thank you very much!
The problem is, that can swim barely 10 yards without losing my fin.
But its nice to swim with! I really understand the Dolphin Kick now, and I felt like a mermaid!
But my muscles hurt like hell at the moment.

Yeah, the muscle thing happens to everyone. I just recommend eating bananas or something with a lot of potassium to fix the 'found muscle' situation.
