I made this bento for lunch today. I need a full lunch on TH because I'm there both days from 9 to 5. I get a two hour lunch break, I usually do homework during it though to help catch me up. Anyway this bento contains:Top Layer:
Apple Jelly
Shumai "Hamburgers" - From Biggie's Blog
Ranch Dipping Cup
Somen Tsuyo Bottle
Soba Noodles
Bottom Layer:
Somen Tsuyo Bottle
Diced Strawberry
Tomato and Gouda with Med Spices "sandwich" on toothpicks

So, do guys ever use these things? I've noticed obento boxes listed on the outdoor menu at the local (wasabi) Japanese place.

Haha they are really good. You can also get ones that dispense the sauce too! I want some of those, but they're not a necessity so only when I get play money.
Oh yes, they make bento boxes specially for men. They arn't "cute" they're nicely made and large enough for a male's meal. You can check out Jlist if you're interested in seeing them.
Most restaurant style bento are actually closer to traditional bento in shape. They have some nice food in them though.

Thank you! It's really not hard to make bento. It's all preparation time. I prepare as much as I can the night before and just finish up the rest the next morning.

Yea, it's a pretty common starter bento. The blue one has dragonflies and the yellow one has ume blossoms.

No it all fits in the box. I wouldn't put it in there if it didn't.

It's mild with a nice salty taste. It's one of my favorite cheeses. The spices in this specific brand really make it yummy

It's in the specialty cheese section. We have two places to get cheese. The specialty area and the normal area.

I'd love to carry some Bento with me to school or work but I always feel too exhausted to dedicate certain time to the preparing of snack. And so cool boxes for bento are sold on ebay = lazy me..

Well it's what you put into it. I do a lot of prep work on the weekend or I do a lot of chopping at one time. It's not as overwhelming that way

lol, thats alot more then most! i use to make bento all the time but now i'm always pressed for time. =A= where i work at i have to do everything an hour early then i have 5 dogs to walk and stuff to do before work. XD my schedules aren't hard, they are just time consuming.

ouch that's a lot to do! I make most of my bento the night before and then I just finish the rest up in the morning. That way I don't have to worry as much about it. I also try to keep little bento items (premade frozen, quick cooking, bento inserts, ect) around my place all the times. I will buy lunch here once in a while, but bento is healthier and cheaper.

lol thats actually how its somewhat done, anyhow. all the ingredients are premade the night before that way you just assemble it the morning after. i would totally do that if my fridge wasn't always so packed with everything else.... i still live with the folks so its hard to keep anything in the kitchen... espcially if its tasty! there were instances where my dad ate MY food that i bought! especially my cheetos!! D<<<< grrr

Yea I know what you mean, I do too so I have that problem sometimes as well. My father is like a garbage disposal, he'll eat anything. My mother and I have to hide sweets to keep them away from him >.<

hahahahhaha, luckily my dad stays away from anything that doesn't look like american foods. So all my asian sweets are safe...unless its something my mom likes then its in danger. DX ah! i recently made dango using tofu and it turned out my mom LOVED it! XD so i'll have to make some again this weekend.

You did? I wanted to try it, but I'm not a huge dango fan. I think it's because I didn't grow up with it. You know just a texture thing that I'm not used to. I appreciate it though it's just not like Omnomnom. I think I just have to get more used to it

lol some asian sweets i just can't handle either due to a taste factor or a textural one. But dango happens to be one of my favorites! i may have grown up in japan but i'm also half filipeano so i'm kind of use to it from the start. lol but i'm also half white so i'm more into american foods then my other half. My friend introduced me to dango and i've loved it since... then i found teh tofu version and tofu is like soy/veg protien so it is very healthy! it turned out just the right type of sweet and it was a little more solid then mochi so it was quite good.

Really? The one on cooking with dog? It might be different then the dango I've eaten in the past. You can't really say you don't like ___ until you've tried a couple different ways of it. I've always had a pallet for asian foods. They just fit my pallet very well and I usually enjoy them more. I grew up with american foods so I do eat it, but I just don't prefer it usually.

YEP! thats the one i've made! its acutally quite fun to mix the tofu and rice flour together! you should totally try it sometime! its quite good....just don't do the soysauce flavor one. that is... um... an aquired taste unless you like that flavor. i only had black sesame seeds so i did that version which was a great hit with me and mom.

I have black sesame seeds, I bought them for my bento entry, but also because they look pretty. I sprinkle them on rice, and such.

make sure it says glutinous rice flour cuz there are differen ttypes. lol i have so much black sesame its hard to sue all ove it!
