Description

This is a tale of escalation. I bought the recent TIE fighter, but I thought it was too small, so I updated it with the dimensions from the Solo TIE. Because I had the fighter, I considered the TIE bomber being fun, but I thought it was too small after building it. I designed a new bomber keeping with a general look of the same windshield, same colors, and a tile boarder around the "wings." That build is pending because I live in a country where it is difficult to get Lego pieces. A trip was planned, but accidents happen that cancel trips. Disappointed about not traveling, I decided to design my favorite ship from the old TIE fighter game - the TIE defender. Looking it up, I was reminded that Lego made this ship, but I also remembered why I did not get it back then. The ship did not look great. The wings looked weird. I designed my defender without any input from the old model. I had the parts for this one, and, while I was at it, I built my own TIE interceptor because I wanted a consistent theme on my shelf.

First, this is play-scale. It is not meant to be super detailed. I based the design on the old 'Essential Guide to Vehicles' book. The central sphere is the same size as the current TIE fighter. It is 26 cm high, 22 cm wide, and 29 cm long

Second, it is generally legal. I designed the defender on Bricklink Studio, which is how it appears in real life. A connection or two may stretch what is allowed a bit, but it was accepted on Studio and works.

I am quite proud of this design. Lego does not have a lot of slope options, which was why the wings of the official model looked weird, being too thin. I got pretty close with my design. It is very stable, and quite satisfying to swish around.
