Description Finally it's finished and just in time!

This started out some time ago as a figure study/doodle of the elephants from my "Siesta in the Jungle"-picture. For a long time it didn't go anywhere beyond that, but then I decided to start working on it again and here's the finished piece.

Hahaha well I guess that's of the ways how to get back to a normal flat shape after eating too much... much faster than a regular diet. Β

I never thought of it that way. Truth be told, as a cat lover, I had to take out revenge on the crocodile for eating the tiger....

Hahaha poor croc. No one is safe around here no matter what. Just noticed the small one below, he can't even watch it. Β

You've spotted Murph(y) the baby croc! He regards Pete his Uncle (granted, Murph(y) regards any adult male crocodile his uncle) and he's been traumatized for the rest of his life. He'll make sure to stay far away from elephants and looming shadows from now on!

Is the little turtle his friend?

Hm, I was asked the same question but in reverse yesterday. I could imagine that Murph(y) might be interested in making friends with him. Eddie being such a timid little creature might prove a hard nut to crack though. He know that there will come a time when every crocodile grows up and little friends from early days are suddenly considered food.

You've found it. The name is derived from the first picture with the sleeping croc. I never came up with a proper name for it, and Siesta would always be there as a sort of "tag" when referring to the pictures.

Aha. I'm mostly a plush fan but this toony style looks kinda catchy and fun.

When did you first decide you want to try make a plush toy yourself?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

demiveemon In reply to antdevv [2018-10-03 18:02:38 +0000 UTC]

As a child, my mother once brought home a left over piece of slightly fuzzy grey fabric (most likely velour) and I wanted to turn it into a floppy kitten plush I knew from a children's tale. It was my first attempt at making a plush and the result was a disaster. xDDD; I felt bad about wasting the fabric and having no plush to show for it, but I used the pieces to make tiny makeshift animals instead, that I later sold to my teachers. %D

And all those year you've never tried any pre-made patterns? Always did your own thing no matter what?

demiveemon In reply to antdevv [2018-10-03 19:26:51 +0000 UTC]

Back in school during sewing class I remember that there was a folder with patterns for various projects, depending on what you wanted to make. I remember macking a white and blue racoon from towel fabric and two parrots back then (and some things that weren't related to plush and have since slipped my mind). Outside of school I've always done everything from scratch. There's a picture in one of my gallery section that dates back to those first proper patterns I made and me trying to figure out what materials work well to build a base with. P-chan's (the black piglet) base will always creep me out. xD

I see. DoingΒ everything from scratch might be much more difficult but I'm sure you learn much more in the end.

It also helps you develop your own style. I see many plush artists, who are using patterns that are either available for free or can be purchased and do allow for reproduction and selling. It makes it difficult for the plusher to stand out amongst others, who are also using those patterns and I think there's a real risk that many just stick with said patterns and never truly discover what they would be capable of on their own.

Oh that goes without saying. Same logic works for drawings. Having your own style is very important if you want to be a true artist.

demiveemon In reply to antdevv [2018-10-03 20:01:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that is correct. I remember when I started out doing fanart. I was good at getting them really close to the original, but experienced artists would always keep telling me, that the pictures were good and all, but they would rather like to see me do those characters in my own style. For many years I didn't know what my own style was, as I had always been striving to get an as accurate depiction of, whatever it was I was trying to draw. To me that was "art". Oh boy, little did I know back then. xD

Fan art can certainly help but just to some extent. It's never too late to discover your own style and yours is very catchy and original.

I'm really appy, that you are returning for a second look. That is one of the things I wanted to achieve when I drew these pictures. I always enjoyed busy pictures as a child. There would always be something new for me to discover.Β
