When I saw this image I was gobsmacked by how detailed it looked from first glance and I knew I had to have it as a desktop background.

The scene can be speculated to what is going on because of the unknown writing which points to the middle of a city on the planet. The alien writing is a nice twist to say that there is some importance there without actually saying anything and then you have the creepy looking character at the bottom of screen who is standing near a table.

I would of guessed that the ship heading to the planet is a scout of some kind and a report is being sent to the creepy guy at the bottom of the screen. I concluded this because of the title 'Found', but everybody may have their own opinions.

The drawing shows alot of detail on the distant stars and on the planet and its moon, however the lighting on the planet was over done I think, as the northern hemisphere is white from a light source which isn't present and the area outside the well lit part of the planet is dark which sorta contradicts itself.

I personally am not sure how a 3D effect on the planet could be mastered, but for a densely populated planet I do expect there to be night life so I expected lights to be seen from space kinda like Earth and less densely populated areas would have less lights.

All in all, this deviation is interesting on perspective but the lighting was the only disapointment.
I look forward to seeing similar deviations where this problem is resolved.

in the frontground, their are two different perspectives : the table and the lines of the ground.
It doesn't match

But space art is great, I don't even agree with star-one critique, IMO lightning's just great

very cool concept mate.
Some things you could improve imo:
the planet texture is too sharp and seems flat, it's not really 3D.
The lines of the biggest square are too thick imo, aesthetically (does this word exist? lol) I'd like to see them thinner and shinier. Same goes for the text.
I think this can be really good if you just fix some minor things.

Very nice work. I like the city, but I think the elements are too big like buildings and roads and that makes it looks unrealistic a bit. But I still like this piece

how did you make those ring things around the moons?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DemosthenesVoice In reply to reddeath-689 [2008-07-11 09:06:21 +0000 UTC]

really simple. made a large pattern of basic lines using a litle layering and added some blending options on it (Bevel, gradient overlay) and then resized it. then added lens flares for the lights and copy and pasted certain segments to make the smaller details.

thanks bro, and what do you mean by lighting? which areas?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Star-one In reply to DemosthenesVoice [2008-07-11 09:12:25 +0000 UTC]

On the planet.
its a bit too strong.
You cant even see the lightsource.
but this kind of lighting would suggest the lightsource is directly behind it. (a bit top left)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DemosthenesVoice In reply to Star-one [2008-07-11 09:16:01 +0000 UTC]

ah, yea, your right. i over did it. i was trying to go for an unseen lightsource (the smallest moon on the left is being light from the same direction so it would imply that the light source is off the page) but you're right, the bigger planet doesnt work well with that theory. thanks bro, ill see if i can tone it down some.
