First piece for Cottonwood Valley!
I'm super excited to see how my sweet little Bash develops.

tldr; Bash is kicked out of his home and finds a new place to live.

In the Beginning

Bash breathed heavily as he kept up a grueling pace away from his homeland. It had been almost a week since he'd left, the night so clearly burned into his memory. He knew it was the way of things, but that didn't make it any less painful to be removed from the only life he'd ever known. His mother had pulled him aside and let him know that it was time to start out on his own. However, he didn't understand why. He had no plans to take any of his father's mares from him. Yet the elder stallion had driven him off without the chance to nuzzle his mother goodbye. His rump still smarted at the bite he'd received from being driven off. It was equally humiliating and heartbreaking.

There had always been some hope that Bash had, that his father cared about him in the least. However, his actions that day definitely branded the true feelings his father had for him in his mind. He knew that the stallion preferred having fillies, to exchange between the other stallion's bands that roamed his homeland. Colts were just more competition for the adults later in life.

Bash shook his head, feeling the cool air nip at the underside of his neck that had previously been covered with his mane. Winter had only been here for a month, but it felt like years during the week he'd been cast out. It was a lonely journey to... wherever he was, and he found himself wishing for at least one companion to keep him company. He understood the need to be with another horse, even if it was a stallion. There was safety in numbers, and with him being alone in an unfamiliar land, he knew it was only time before he was targeted by some form of predator. His only hope was that he would find refuge before that happened.

The sun was just barely rising as he topped the steep hill he'd been climbing. Once at the top, his mind was drawn to the beautiful valley below him. It was breathtaking and for a moment, he felt like he was going to be alright. Especially if he had something as beautiful as this view to wake up to every day.

Bash decided this would be his new home, for better or for worse.
