For the gradient tool I can't find the setting from step 4.
Foreground to transparant. Could you tell me where to find it?

a very interesting method you use. though i think this is more of a colour-blending tutorial than a lighting tutorial. the lighting would be more about making sure both horse and background have highlights and shadows in the right place. you see what i mean? xD

i think this is a very good method for colouring, though. it's excellent and gives that powerful colour.

I see your point, however it is a lighting tutorial as it merges the horse and background image by giving similar lighting. Perhaps it's just not like the regular tutorials.

Wow, this will be really helpful for me! But how do you know where the light is coming from? ^^

I'm glad

Generally you can identify it, in the case of a sunset/sunrise, by the area with the most vibrant yellow glow. In other cases, perhaps with cloud images where theses no yellow glow or the sun is behind the clouds, you may be able to recgonise it as the 'whitest' area. It can vary from image to image though.
If there's an image your uncertain with feel free to send me a link and I'll help you out

Okey Dokey then! Thank you very much! So if you were doing, a forest where the only light is coming from the top, would you do your lighting there or would you just leave it?

Either or really. You could, if you were to position the lighting at the very edge of the graphic, so only the glow is coming in. It depends which you feel looks best
