Powers

Rusalka is physically a normal human being as strength and abilities is concerned. Her powers lie in her mastery of the arcane arts.

She is able to draw the mystical energies running through the world into herself and shape them into various spells depending on the needs of the situation. Being that her magic is internal, she generally has little use for artifacts like spell books or things like magic incantations when performing her core abilities. The power of her spells is limited, physically, by her ability to hold the energies she has gathered while she shapes the spell. While she can gather substantial amounts of energy, her abilities are also constrained by several other factors, such as an ingrained fear that she'll lose control and harm others, a danger that increases with the amount of energy she is handling at any given time. Also, since her magic is internal, using too much of it for too long is physically exhausting to her. If she weaves too large a spell there is a danger she could burn herself out and temporarily lose the ability to use magic or even exhaust herself to the point of death. Therefore she tends to temper her abilities to what she can safely control.

Although she is capable of using most of the various types of magical energies flowing through the world, her major affinity is for spells dealing with negative energy. She can draw this magic in more easily than others. Some of her common tactics and spells include calling up bits of the dark energy to confuse, slow or otherwise interfere with her opponents ability to function normally. She has been known to bring a persons nightmares to life to incapacitate them or open portals to other dimensions for various purposes although she does this rarely if she can help it. She also uses her spells in an offensive capacity, hurling energy drawn from the netherworld directly against her opponents.

Her necklace is a magical artifact that she always has on her person. It acts as a sort of magical battery which allows her to store energy and to safely control more powerful amounts than she would without it's help. When in use the gemstone glows softly. Although what it looks like when she casts a spell varries greatly depending on the spell being cast, most usually her magic while crafting a spell takes the form of wispy dark tendrils, sort of like a more substantial, dark smoke gathering around her body. If her spell is using more of another element (which is rare but can happen), the effect would mirror that element in style (electricity or fire for example). The strength and visibility of the effect is directly proportional to the amount of energy that she has drawn into herself for the spell.
