Paper Mario/Mario Story sprites for Cheepskipper, a boss from New Super Mario Bros DS.

Following a beach-based adventure and a trek into a waterlogged castle, Mario and Luigi encountered the unfriendly lunges of the Cheep Cheep boss, Cheepskipper. He lunged at the plumber over and over, as well as order his Cheep Cheep minions to take some cheap cheap shots. As per usual, though, Mario fried this fish, and the bros continued into colder territory.

Cheepskipper hasn’t officially shown up in any other Mario games of any kind, including Paper Mario. Despite being an underused mainliner, he doesn’t appear in any modern games for the latter, with generic Big Cheep Cheeps used for various roles.

For fanstories, meanwhile, I’ve seen Cheepskipper in a few fan projects over the years. A little closer to home, the half-purple punk appears in the fantopic recut of Sticker Star, replacing a generic big Cheep Cheep in the process. The topic also describes the battle as more lenient than the actual game’s bout, since the Hook thing would not be required.

When promoting Paper Jam Recut, I did make a quick mock-up of what Cheepskipper might look like in the Paper Mario series. I referred back to that promo pic for these sprites as a starting point, while more correctly proportioning and sizing the guy.
