Description Paper Mario/Mario Story-style sprites for Cheep Chomp, a larger Cheep Cheep variant from the Super Mario Bros series.

Cheep Chomps first appeared in Super Mario 64, though not the way depicted above. There, it's a more scaled up fish called BBBBBBBUBBA! Anyways, BUBBA! swam around the dual-sized Tiny-Huge Island, looking for plumbers. When found, it opens its mouth wide like a killer clown and CHOMP! There goes the plumber, no matter how much health they have. (S...strange...why do I feel a past dread looming up?)

Alongside a cameo in Mario Golf 64, BUBBA! would next show up in, oddly enough, the DS remake of Super Mario 64. There, they looked much closer to a Cheep Cheep. They were also thankfully much slower to make up for the control scheme. I mean, it only makes sense. Otherwise, you'd have an unfairly-design challenge. (...What's that shiver down my spine...?)

Following that, BUBBA! was no longer BUBBA! Following a retconned appearance in the classic Banshee Boardwalk racetrack in Mario Kart DS, BUBBA! would become known as Cheep Chomp, in New Super Mario Bros DS. Though a major menace in the water, Mario's careful swimming and access to Fire Flowers let him stay on top of Cheep Chomp, and out of it's life-ending maw. (Is...it just me, or do I hear heavy pouring water somewhere...?!)

With its new identity as Cheep Chomp, the purple fish swam into many Mario titles. The aquatic beast had a perfect attendance award in the New Super Mario Bros series. In addition, Cheep Chomp appeared in several ND Cube era Mario Party titles, with its biggest role as a boss in Mario Party 10 being hit by shells and merely slamming its foes. And as expected, Cheep Chomp retconned BUBBA! out of its Yoshi's Tropical Island role in Mario Party Superstars.

...You know, I could swear Cheep Chomp had another role in another Mario game, but I just can't seem to recall it. Huh- I must have pushed it out of my mind...or repressed it, to the point of replacing them in a fantopic retelling of that game. Perhaps a nice nap will clear my...mind....yawwwwwwn....

ZZZZZZZZZ...

...Huh...wha'...what is this...a raft near a waterfall? Is that panicky jungle music? I wasn't thinking about a-

...OH. MY. GRAMBI! A CHEEP CHOMP! AHHHHHH! GET ME OUT OF HERE!

STOP HITTING MY RAFT, YOU LITERAL FISH! YOU'RE KNOCKING ITS LOGS OFF!! HOW ARE YOU HITTING ME SO EXACTLY!!?! AND I HAVE NOTHING TO HIT YOU BACK WITH! THAT'S NOT FAIR!!! AND YOUR FISHBONE MINIONS DON'T EVEN MAKE ANY SENSE! BUT AS LONG AS I HAVE AT LEAST TWO LOGS ON MY RAFT, YOU CAN'T...

IT'S...CHARGING AT ME WITH AN OPEN MOUTH! IT LOOKS LIKE ITS GOING TO IT IS LEAPING AT ME! IT'S COMING IN TOO FAST, I CAN'T AVOID IT, SOMEONE THROW ME A
