Description
High resolution sprites for the Punis, a cute possibly insect species from Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door. Alongside the canon generic male models, I've also added females.
Long ago, the Punis of Boggly Woods were menaced by the locals baddies. One day, a heroic Goomba sorceress used her magic to carve a home in the Great Boggly Tree. After finishing, she gave the Punis one of the Crystal Stars, the Emerald one, to watch over and guard until the right time. For 1000 years, the Punis honored their altruistic benefactor.
At the tail end of that timespan, though, a legion of X-Nauts led by Lord Crump came sniffing around Boggly Woods for the Emerald Star, to help their boss Grodus awaken an ancient evil. To that end, all the Punis were imprisoned, and their home converted into a technofloral fortress. One Puni escaped, searching for help.
Finally, that Puni came back with Mario and the Puni tribe's friend, Madame Flurrie. By freeing the Punis, Mario led an ever-growing squadron of the little guys deeper and deeper into the tree, their increasing numbers useful in many situations. Finally, everyone pitched in, the X-Nauts fled, and the Punis gave Mario the Emerald Star.
Other than TTYD, the Punis' only other official appearance is in Super Paper Mario, as collectibles for a certain chameleon.
In the DMZ fangame topic timeline, while they don't physically appear in any stories, the Punis are mentioned in Paper Mario Wonder Journey.

You might notice the female poses aren't exact matches for the male ones. This is due to negative feedback at Spriter's Resource I got regarding the mass-production and similarities of my sprites within one species (specifically on Tiara's page), as well as the poses in general. While I assure my watchers I do take my time (though not forever) creating my sprites, and there was a very good reason for the similar poses (consistency and tech limitations that I still can't find a solution to), I've decided to try and diversify poses as rationally and much as possible. While enemies and minor characters will still share how they act and react, special characters will receive more unique poses for similar emotions.

I have been hearing quite a bit lately that these little guys have caused Boggly Woods to be the least favorite chapter out of the entire game for a lot of people.... To the point where they say they love literally everything about the game except for the entirety of Chapter 2

Really? This is the first I've heard of it.

Yeah it's super weird. I had no idea about it until recently myself.
