Description
Here's a another sneak peek at an interior page from the third issue of "The Wellkeeper". And while this page doesn't have any action or "POW" scenes it it, it's an important one in the issue. It' establishes new characters in the form of the Winston family. Officer Winston has a small roll in the second issue, but in issue three we get a glimpse into his private live and family. This page had a lot of examples of the casting choices I'm making for this book and my desire to be more interesting in the kinds of folks that populate the worlds I create.
A lot of comic artists populate their books with folks that all look like they could become a superhero at any moment. (And I admit that I wanted to make Officer Winston look somewhat heroic) But I think it's important to make the people you draw look like real people. With distinct features and physical characteristics that AREN'T carbon copies of every super hero or heroine out there.

Again, simply gorgeous line work. I think I'm becoming a fan...

I love how these girls seem to have that childhood chubbyness. Another refreshing thing to see in comic characters.

Thanks. I try to "cast" characters with a wide variety of more realistic body types.

Very cool--despite the strong jaw of the dad (which isn't a bad place to go for that kind of character), you definitely succeed in making every character look unique in this. The "same-face-itis" thing grates at me too, and I'm trying to make sure I don't fall into that if/when I become a comic book artist.

Still got the chisel jaw
Really good page actually. It's refreshing to see a more "cartoony" look (in lack of a better word) togheter with nice shadowing. I'm trying to learn and draw a little more "Serious" but everything I do looks gritty and unfinished. Your style is really good. (I can never do good eyes).
Nice one!

Yeah, Dad's still got the lantern jawed hero thing going, but that's mostly because he's one of the heroes later on in the story.
