This is a page from Issue #3 of "The Wellkeeper" that I just completed. I think my skills at drawing birds has progressed considerably since I did the eagle in the #0 issue. ([link] ) Still, getting all those feathers right is freakin' HARD!

Eli here is introduced in a somewhat menacing fashion, but he's really a good guy. He's just a bit of an untrusting soul when meeting Sebastian for the first time here.

When I originally wrote the outline for "The Wellkeeper" a couple of years ago, Eli was going to be a crow, but since then I had fallen in love with a graphic novel called "RED MOON" ([link] ) online that shares some stylistic similarities with "The Wellkeeper" that PROMINENTLY features crows and I didn't want to step on their toes.

After a little research, I found a bird called the Cooper's Hawk that fit my needs and looked appropriately dangerous. (Although some of Eli's distinct markings on his face come from a bird called the Kestrel, ironically prey of the Cooper's hawk.)

But when I saw that slight crowing of the feathers on the head and the stripes on the wings, I was sold on it's design. Sadly, the birds bright orane to red eyes will be lost in black and white.

Anywho, hope you all dig this sneak peak.
