deskridge — Sabertooth in Fog

Description A shaggy saber-toothed cat with a coat pattern resembling that of a cloud leopard shows you his wicked teeth in profile as he looks over his shoulder while sitting in a patch of grass.  It is probably not a good idea to disturb a smilodon who is resting in the grass.

I was in the mood again to make an artwork featuring the sabertooth, my favorite of the pleistoscene animals and probably still my favorite large cat.

A disclaimer about my paleoart:

When it comes to paleoart  the images I create favor 'art' more than 'paleo'. While I try my best to depict animals as accurately as possible  I'm make no claim that they 100% scientifically accurate. The same goes for the environment I depict them in. I am primarily interested in creating aesthetically pleasing images and paintings. Scientific accuracy comes second behind artistic expression.

Thanks for looking!

pursuit of art allows for much in the way of forgiving lack of scientific accuracy. Afterall, none of us was there so what do we have as a comparison basis!

Thanks!

I suppose the art scene here in Atlanta is average.  There are a few good festivals each year, though not too many galleries that can stay afloat.

Something about the coat makes him even more frightening than the Smilodon already is. Fine job.

Good image and who knows how they looked. First time I've seen one rendered in fog instead of a sunny, clear day-a refreshing concept.
