Thanks, Lori. I does look like a good one to climb, what with the branches and all. I used to LOVE to climb trees when I was a kid, but couldn't shinny up the trunk like some tough boys could. I had to have those branches as steps!

Thank you, Sandra. It's a grand old tree, much bigger than this picture looks. I couldn't get it all in one frame!

Thank you, Coco. I like beeches because of their incredibly rich textured bark and intricate branch growth patterns. They are so beautiful in the fall, too.

After eucalypts (I'm an Aussie), they are my favourite tree! Coco

Me too, I'm a huge fan of trees. Wish we had more big ones like this in our neighborhood. Trees bring joy every day.

Thank you. I really love old, intersting trees. They seem to have their own individual personalities.

It is a magnificent tree.. We have an ancient black walnut across the street from us. It's gorgeous and huge.. Luckily it's healthy as well.. I'm sure it's older than the town.. I'll have to try to get a good photo this summer.. The neighbors have covered the roots and planted a flower garden over them..

That should be OK as long as the soil covering the roots isn't too deep. Lots of people do that around here, and the trees seem to be OK with it. But I did notice that the soil layer was quite thin.

It doesn't seem to bother the tree and it looks quite nice.. Can't stand their parenting skills but they are good gardners.

I love walking through the woods and stumbling upon something mother nature created that just captures the eye. Tree looks really cool. Great shot. Perhaps in b&w at dusk or dawn the shot would be very well edited.

Thank you very much. Trees often look wonderful in b&w because their forms are more clearly defined, without distraction of bright colors. I would like to see how this would look in b&w, too. I'll bet it would be really handsome.
